And stance can make a massive difference to the fit of a gun. I have a shooting pal who, when he dry mounts a gun, mounts it across his body, with his feet at 90° to where the target would be. This dictates a longer stock. Yet, when he is actually live shooting, his stance is normal. This is where gun fitting in a shop can fall down.

Westley Richards factory in Birmingham did a damned good job on my side by side in the 1980's. They did all of their gunfitting on a pattern plate, with a try gun, at the rear of the premises. It was a weird experience shooting at a pattern plate, with a rugby match going on 100 yards to my left
I have to say though, they got the fit spot on.
