Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Yep, I went back and shot that stand again, held further back and got a much better connection with the first bird then the second bird was almost straight at it when it slowed up. That stand/area is deceptive where it's so open and high up, I should have known better really with the number of...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

I'm a bit disappointed with Churchills on Thursday, they shouldn't really be running 2 competitions on the same day, but despite that I didn't shoot badly with 82 and that included missing 7 on the sim pair of L-R on the right of skeet, held out miles too far on the first bird and the second...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Steady 85 at Barbury, got there before 9 and got round fairly quickly, I know a few others who started a bit later weren't as fortunate. Good round of clays, kicking myself a bit for missing the last 2 close midis on 11, and then my last pair completely on 12 though.

That midi on 9 needed a good gap, I hit it twice giving it ten foot.

    Failure to enter your card

I've seen this happen in the old CPSA Clubman series which ran in my local area for B, C, and unclassified shooters. All the shoots were self scored so completely open to abuse, I witnessed one person miss 5 on a stand and miraculously turn in a score of 66/70

    EOpen 2019 at WMSG

Shot this today, was happy with 101/120, managed to get three of the droppers on 15, just a shame I only hit one of the teal. Dropper needed shooting sharp with a fair gap, I see about 10 foot. That was the only nasty stand, which accounted for nearly 25% of my dropped targets.

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Steady 89 at Gunsite in the glorious sunshine this morning. Very, very busy though, took nearly three hours to get round and I was on my own, dropped concentration on one stand after waiting for ages, rest was good.

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

The only one is struggled to see was the L-R being fired from the top of the bank on stand 12, just couldn't connect and missed all 4. I did find myself switching between my favourite peach and light purple lenses today though due to the change in colours against backgrounds and sun going in...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

I say practice but it's more training than anything, I try to shoot it as if it were a competition. Churchills on Monday I shot ten stands as 5 pair on report then five stands as sim pairs, then Tuesday at Mill Ride I shot 50 sporting then I shot 100 on the sheet range as sim pairs which was a...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

For the first time ever I've shot for 7 days in a row. Sunday - Premier League at Westfield, shorts and a polo shirt in just 8 degrees wasn't my smartest move. Monday - 150 practice a team EJC on my way to Wolverhampton. Tuesday - 150 practice at Mill Ride after my vision assessment with Ed...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

I shot the overhead as a crosser; watched it all the way out the trap, followed its path through the tree then (even though Ed hates me doing this) jumped in to it with a decent gap. Watched a few in front of me try to hold out and shoot it as an overhead but that wasn't working.

3 - platform with the sim pair L-R 6 - sim pair of the going away trap bird and L-R crosser off the bank 12 - outside the pit, overhead bird that needed taking as a crosser then the midi looper.

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

That was the best round of clays I've shot in a while at Gunsite yesterday, thoroughly enjoyable compared to some of the rubbish dished up at other places. Nice to shoot at some stuff that needed a good gap as well.

Apparently you need 2 for K80 Supersport barrels

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

The wind at Owls was mental this morning, everything being blown all over the place which was a real shame as without the breeze it would have been a good shoot. Tomorrow forecast is even worse so I'm not going anywhere, the fun element disappeared very quickly today.

    Parcours and supersport

I've had a Supersport since July and am getting on really well with it, as someone said they are a lump of a gun, but I'm a lump myself so need it.  Luckily I got to have a really good go with one before actually buying it but I've got no regrets, it's really well built and handles very well...

    End of season thoughts .

I had a very enjoyable season, my first proper game shooting season having done a couple of days over the previous couple of years. Ended up on a local syndicate where we shoot 10 x 150 bird days, the shooting has been very good and the team of guns made me feel most welcome. Managed to pick...

    Technique on crossing birds

I tend to shoot all game being it driven or a crossing bird with swing through, I think you get the line of the bird better, it's easier to time, and personally I think it's suited to game as every shot is different. Complete opposite to my clay shooting where shoot mostly maintained lead and...
