    World 2023 live scores.

Looking like a firm one. Just the Blue course today I gather, so scores are comparable. Red course for these shooters tomorrow.

Adjustable comb, fashion or real benefit

Well, sort of agree if the fit is roughly OK with the fixed stocks. However, if you are so low in the comb that you can’t see the rib at all, then it’s goodnight. I could shoot my Perazzi well even though I needed a mass of cast off really. Used to leave me with a stiff neck forcing myself to...

    Ported Chokes?

I think ported chokes are great, because you can put a bit of string through the holes and use them as an attractive necklace until needed.

    Total Noob 1st Gun

Personally I think the 725 Pro Sport has an overly dead and heavy barrel, which will suit some but probably not a good first gun. But this is more a theory than a fact. The Beretta is a more conventional feel I would say. The terminators arm is fascinating and depends on whether you can optimise...

    Total Noob 1st Gun

I think he’s gone. It was all too confusing.

    Total Noob 1st Gun

Seriously, buy something used and at the cheaper end (that you like and fits roughly well). Then after a year you can change it and will have more preferences developed for a keeper gun. Well that’s the standard advice anyway.

Bend it or make it adjustable?

Yeah, I had wondered if I could get Jason to offer different furniture and do the work if I needed another doing. His stock finishing is superb. My old Perazzi looks a dream

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

They did one very soft shoot, too easy. Maybe you did that one? They have cured it since.

Bend it or make it adjustable?

I’m a fan of JWS too. He’s done lots of work for me including two adjustable combs. However.. it’s a shame he uses a very basic furniture post set for the combs. The Doveridge version looks more professional and I think I’d do that next time.

Bend it or make it adjustable?

Gun balance is mainly about how it feels to lift it into the shoulder. The feel of a gun swing is almost solely barrel weight. Don’t worry about making the stock a bit heavier IMO.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

EJC on Thursday. Nice shoot with first three stands in the woods alongside the road in. Made a change but could have been more testing in all that area. Rest of shoot medium hard, good variety, maybe not the tough preparation we need for the World Championship coming up.. finished on 94. 96 HG...

Bend it or make it adjustable?

I’ve seen his work and regret not using him.. mainly because the furniture is nice.

You don’t mention cartridge shot size which make a difference. I only ever shoot 1/4 and 1/4 in mine, with 8 shot, 2.2mm, so plenty of pellets for edge on stuff. I never doubt the killing power on the usual targets I see. For the upcoming World Championships I will carry some 2.4mm shot...

Bend it or make it adjustable?

Adjustable comb. You won’t break the stock, it won’t bend back and you have more adjustment. I’ve done it to two guns.

    Skeet Vest

As long as your shooting wasn’t bollox..

    Skeet Vest

50? Never had more than 30 in mine and then only briefly. It’s a pocket, not a camels hump 😀

    Skeet Vest

The Castellani logo on mine was huge and instantly got the snip. I have to say, a cartridge pouch worn on my belt has made all skeet vests redundant for me. So much more flexibility with clothing when using a pouch. Very handy on a changeable day.

    Hello

Do your very best to forget everything rifle shooting when using a shotgun. Enjoy shooting at pieces of fresh air you never would have believed.

    Barrels...........30 / 31 / 32''

Balance on the pin / between the hands can always be achieved, but IMO the main handling feel (during moving to/ away from a target) comes from barrel weight, especially at the muzzle. Two twenty stone blokes sat on a see-saw balance the same as two small children do, but it’s a very different...

    Barrels...........30 / 31 / 32''

Just a general comment; barrel weight and barrel length are two separate elements. Weight affects feel, length affects picture. It’s not the case that a 30” will always be more nimble than a 32” if you’re talking different brands of gun. Take every gun as an individual I would suggest.
