Enjoy the journey. It’s a gradual learning curve with bumps in the road and some nice upturns occasionally. Be ready for both.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

I shot it early so not so many shooters generating shot. I had no issues, but I admit the ground is a big circle so any shots into the circle are towards other stands potentially. On stand 10 (sim orange where I saved three cartridges) I could clearly see a fella loading a trap in the distance...

    Shoot reports and news 2024

Westfield today, also a big entry so Gloucestershire seems the popular zone. I reckon nearly 200 total. Very cool day but otherwise shooter-friendly conditions. Lovely course, nothing really nasty but consistent amount of good crossers and loopers at some distance, mixed with some more fiddly...

I booked in for next month already. They fill this shoot no problem. 180 spaces.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

Agree EJC was a nice course and actually perfect shooting weather. Maybe could have done with one stand toughening up to create a talking point, but a good mix and plenty of good shooters not cleaning it all up. My story? Same as ever.. tossed a good result away by missing 3 targets most C class...

    2024 “wish list”

Eh? Do you mean cartridges? I believe clays bought in bulk still well under 10p each.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

So, it’s 2024. Happy New Year to all, in both shooting and home lives. Best to start a new thread for the year where we can mention how our day behind the gun has gone. Years ago, there was a slightly Sporting versus Trap vibe on here, which doesn’t really exist anymore, so I think we should...

    2024 “wish list”

Rich, almost all of your list is already the rule. Just need to make sure all grounds are consistent. There will always be a human element to it, especially with no birds. At my last shoot, it was gusty and I missed a clay as it suddenly dropped. Ref gave it me again without me asking, which was...

    CPSA classification

I think the CPSA system works quite well actually, as long as shooters shoot enough and at different grounds. Sounds like a very daft quirk if Becky M is down in C class. I would like to see how that was worked out

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

For sure a big heap of AAA/AA can make it look easier than it is. But an average of 83 is still high. I’m guessing it needed two stands made more firm. But I’m sure everyone enjoyed it and the tougher shoots will even things up.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Hangmanstone Boxing Day; 45 people on 90 or more. 😵‍💫 Happy Xmas course setting it seems. I’m sure was still a decent shoot.

    Shooting and watches

I avoid shooting with my best watches, but due to concern about clay shatter damage. Also bigger watches less comfortable and can snag up on clothing. Never worried about recoil damaging a watch. I’ve worn same watch shooting for 15 years.

    Shot size, load and patterning

Shot string is a very academic pointless distraction to a shooter IMO. Of course it exists and it’s great to see it in slo-mo, but as the whole string arrives at the clay in such a short time, it acts as a flat pattern on a pattern plate. There may be some relevance if clays travelled at 500mph...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I’ve certainly shot shoots with average of 68 and enjoyed them but RBSS really don’t get competition course setting in my previous experiences. Varies all over the place and shows they don’t consider the course as a whole. Often, the issue is they put in a monstrous stand of tower crossers that...

    Wet, Cold & No Birds.

I’ve only ever seen winter carousel covers at one ground and that closed years ago. British clays tough it out.

    Wet, Cold & No Birds.

Title of this thread sounds like a bloke with no appeal to ladies has gone winter camping with a leaky tent

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Yep. Some grounds are lazy, outdated and I would suggest unacceptable in this sense.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Barbury today. Last shoot before off for some foreign winter sun, so nice to do a decent job with 93 and only a couple where I felt I could have done better. Joint leader, just waiting for that to topple.. A great course with nothing hideous but plenty of testing stuff. Misty start (I thought it...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Made a rare pilgrimage to Northampton today for the esp reg. Forecast didn’t look great, but went hopeful. That didn’t work. Constant rain, low light and a significant mist to create some visual issues. A messy start dropping several on some easier initial stands, mainly as I was cold and a bit...

What’s up with the high rib?

Agree with Philpot. I always found they were more of a marketing ploy than anything else. Some who feel they need a more head-up stance like them. Personally I find them odd as there is “clutter” in view especially on rising crossers. My mate is in AAA and loves his, but he shoots a semi auto...
