Of course. But until then, use the most allowed.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Hornet / College Farm today. Very evident that Kevin (who set the course) had recently been at the Hungary FSP. 😀 Definitely a step up today. Good though. A spectacularly poor 2/8 on the last stand trashed an otherwise respectable card, so 83. Get along if you fancy a good test this week.

Well guy in shop had no idea of the facts. Range is not affected by load size effectively. A 21g (or 24g) are usually just the best bit out of a 28g pattern. It’s a bit like using more choke (in terms of pattern size) in many cases.

    A bit messy I reckon..

That is just a matter of using your imagination. Will just spread out about 20%

Apologies to the OP for derailing this thread; but I’ll just finish the Fblu 24g 7.5 (2.4mm) thing.. I patterned one just now and they really spread (kind of as you expect from a fairly cheap shell). In 24g I think it’s a good thing for sporting actually. There isn’t even a dense centre, so...

    Another itch scratched….

Sounds a perfect spec to me. My old MX12 didn’t give any trouble for many years with just normal cleaning. Bores OK, just don’t look like mirrors. The firing pins will pit after a while but you can polish them up and they last well.

I’ve got no problem with 24g being the rule per se.

As I say, if you’re on it, you’re fine. But 28g will always cover a small margin of error. I’m sure nobody will define how much, so until then we will live in fear and opt for the most certain option. 😀

With respect, DTL isn’t exactly demanding of a cartridge.. I usually shoot 28g 8shot. That’s about 450 pellets versus about 290 in a 24g with UK 7 shot. Pretty big percentage difference; over 50% more pellets in the 28g 8. No problem if you’re on target, but has to be a small disadvantage...

I’m going to shoot them. I just wonder about the very low pellet count at 2.4mm and 24g. I bet they work well in practice.

Yeah just bought some FBlu 24g for almost that price from William Evans, Bisley. Pretty annoyed when I got home and realised they weren’t 28g.. 🙁😩

    New gun time

It’s the old discussion about geometry versus how a shooter actually interacts with the sight picture. I would suggest a higher comb is more about seeing the target well than making the gun shoot high, but it will depend on the shooter not looking at the muzzle too hard and indeed learning how...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Redricks in the gusty winds. Haven’t been there for quite a while. (No reason other than there are usually closer shoots that clash). I enjoyed it and thought it was a sensible course that the wind added a bit of an element to today obviously. I seem to have developed an unfathomable problem on...

Zoli Vs Rizzini Vs Beretta Vs Caesar Guerini

Exactly my opinion. If only they did them with a lighter barrel.. well, they did, with the carbon black, now discontinued.

All reliable guns. Go for the one that you think will suit you best.

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

March was an easier shoot. Last one I did was April where it was all good. Average stat score was 77 which is about right I think, as were May and June I think. But last one was 67! So very firm really.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I completely agree about a qualifying event Jonz. Even at a normal registered shoot, the course can’t suit everybody there and this is a huge exaggeration of that. Having said that, the World Champ contenders will go through a tough super final event on Sunday, so as long as the main event is...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Basically there is a lot of long distance stuff that you rarely see. Many targets are nothing exceptional, but the cage is 15 to 30 yards further back than normal. Also, there are 14 stands on each course and only a handful are obvious card fillers. Monday and Tuesday were troubled by rain and...

I shot red yesterday. My excuse list is long and my score dreadful! Hoping for a better day today on blue.
