Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

My experience of a pad or recoil reducer in vests is that they make mounting the gun less consistent and also take away the feel of whether it is mounted correctly. The browning/musto option was awful - like having a paperback stuck to your shoulder. The better option (in my opinion) is to put a...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

It will be a gun fit issue. That bruise is below the collar bone. The gun might be pushing into the shoulder at the heal and/or rotating on the collar bone. Small contact areas - equals big bruise and a feeling the gun is hard to manage. The problem with having a long neck is that you need to...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

Simon-B makes a very good point. If the contact of the butt plate is not consistent (the pitch is wrong) then recoil will increase. Half contact on the butt plate - twice the kick into the area involved. As said the fit is likely to be the key factor.

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

The problem is more likely to be gun fit than the cartridge as such. That can be issue with mounting and/or the gun and do not discount the "its going to kick, so I will mount to wrong out of fear" factor which very quickly makes things worse. As pointed out a 20 gauge gun will weight less - a...

How much difference do Cartridges make?

The only thing I would add to the above is that I sometime use a bior (type) 9 or fibre 24g (Express Superlights are ideal) for close stuff. That's only because they open up quicker. I agree that distance stuff needs something different but for general stuff I can't see any objective difference...

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

The only advantages I see are light weight and lower recoil - good for the elderly & recoil sensitive perhaps !! You are right Bavarian - so many disadvantages and many safety related. I find myself distracted by them - looking them to check they are safe. I don't own one.

    FITASC vs Super Sporting

This sums up regulatory bodies who have lost touch with the grass roots of their sport. The reference to the decision of the 21st July 2015 stinks of cartel or restraint of trade. In the meantime, lets invent a new discipline called "Super-Duper-Sporting". There's no technical breach then !!.

    Hull Sporting 100 paint issue

I expect the printing process was fine but its the ink that is the issue. I suspect it has a 'setting' compound and there not enough. If you rub it does it come off I'm leaving the above sentence open to the obvious !!!

    Random question re.bib numbers.

One of my best purchases was Musto Evolution GTX Shore Jacket. What a mouthful. You can find them on some decent discounts. It's quite lightweight and very good in the rain. It is not as breathable and as Westley says it can get a bit warm. I have found cycling jacket are often good - zips...

    Length Matters it seems….

I'm also a little unclear what barrel length has to do with the fit. I'd be more interested in the difference in LOP and (in particular) the difference from heel to grip which is quite significant. The autos appear to have more drop in comb (at face) but that might be just the photos.

I was referring to the gun shop thread you started previously so apologies for name shortening.

    ACS DT11

Not personally - I know two people who tried high ribs and have struggled and one who shoots one successfully. It's an all or nothing change in my view so if you other (game) guns are not high rib I would think very carefully about it. Get a gun fit first. Someone like Ben or Cheryl will point...

    Random question re.bib numbers.

I use a mesh vest and wear it over the top. Sorry if that's unhelpful.

    UK gunshop suggestion please

Money is all relative. There may be enough people with £20k as pocket change to order one based on the biased 'video' reviews and account for those in the UK for a good few months. They might be seen as a relatively safe investment - perhaps losing £2k if you sell it later on. Until some of the...

    Redricks Sporting Clays

A ground I always wanted to visit but just too far for me. A real shame. It would be good to know the reason(s).

    Riddle me this……?

There are quite a few stories - and I think one on here involving a 694 (?) - where the regulation has been off by some degree. The problem with laser bore guides is they are not that well made and the bores are not the crucial part - it's the barrels. I have not played with them much so you...

    Riddle me this……?

The barrels will be regulated to hit the same spot at a specific distance. I would expect a skeet gun its 21 yards and a sporter about 30 but a gunsmith would know more. With the pattern and slight choke variations its negligible at the clay. The single barrel guns are for single shot trap -...

    UK gunshop suggestion please

There is way too much self interest in a shop carrying out a gun fit. If you have the money for a Krieghoff then get a 'fit' from someone independent (perhaps taking your current gun first). Also be realistic about it - what do you think is the difference between a game & clay gun and why is...

Would you try shooting from your other shoulder?

It is very rare for the hold point to be where you first see the clay - only if you are trying a fast swing through and you have very good timing - and I would suggest other methods would be much more reliable. Whether you are left or right handed you need to be able to see the clay and then...

More misses than an unmarried womens convention

It's very easy to be fooled by the clay - after all it's the job of the course setter to make you read it incorrectly. I've had a few that have taken a number to get right. The key is to have a plan and the answers above are spot on. More lead, try a different technique and adjust hold & kill...
