    Browning XS Pro Sporter

If you struggling then try other peoples and try to break the criteria down. Gun weight, balance, stock profile. Then note down some standard measurements - stock length, barrel length, palm swell. After a while you will work out the guns you need to try face to face and make a journey worthwhile.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

So Monday @ the Essex Masters. Firstly it was drive for me – 6am up and 7am in the car for a (rushing) 10am arrival. I also, given it was not a registered shoot, decided to take out the 682 Gold. It’s just had a adjustable stock fitted to it (Jason Sivitar) and which, apart from 75 cartridges...

    Shoot reports and news 2024

Martin. I shot Langs a few weeks ago and the first stand was two incoming quartering clays which I didn't bother thinking about. Dropped 3 for a 5 when it would normally be an 8 or disappointed 7. You are right about getting your head together but I wonder whether it's an 'easy' bird too early...

    Not today

An 82 in the wind yesterday at Northampton after a 72 at Kibworth also in windy conditions. I've spent quite a bit of time working on my consistency but the weekend was good in terms of - yes be consistent with mount point and kill point etc - but remembering to treat each pair on their own...

Local Ground For Local People 🤣

I am surprised that the vast majority of grounds around us that are closed Mondays. I totally get the day off after the weekend etc but you would think one or two would work out that opening Monday and closing Tuesday or Wednesday might work. I'm no retail expert however !!!

    Shoot reports and news 2024

AGL for Daughter & me on Friday. I enjoyed the shoot but the sim pair half way round was badly affected by the wind & no birds - the wind made shooting the first one early essential. Apart from looking up a lot I do like the ground (which is a journey for us) and there was something to think...

    A Manuel Ricardo visit

I would have taken the import (VAT) tax gamble a few years ago but not now - I have purchased half a dozen items abroad and all including the small ones are picked up with VAT & charges on top to pay. Daz - This is a brilliant write up. I would be interested on the total cost when you have it...

    Gun for the Mrs ?

Agree with the 525 option. One of the guns I got was 525 (2008) which is HP steel proof and solid as a rock. Paid £850 and adj comb and pad took it to £1,200 but its well worth the money and will hold it's value. Daughter shoots an 525RS (meant as a ladies option) and we ended up with an adj...

    Gun for the Mrs ?

The money thing is a very good question. If you are trying to do this for £600 you will struggle because very few older guns can be made to fit a lady shooter - getting an adjustable stock will be £200 on top (you will probably need one) and there's always the issue of cast & pitch for women...

Another price increase for cartridges at end of January

I've asked a couple of times on bulk buys (over 4/5k) and found it a better 'investment' to leave the money in the bank even with a nominal rate !!!

    Shoot reports and news 2024

Orston for me yesterday - early start. 69 which was just about Ok for a first round on a ground I had only been to twice before for practise. Still recovering from a frozen shoulder which doesn't normally bother me too much but did yesterday. I found it quite hard - it's quite flat so hard...

Shooting glasses for spec wearers ?

You make a good point - Whilst I've not had them myself I know someone who gave up on them - suddenly going dark and then taking a long time to lighten up.

Shooting glasses for spec wearers ?

My understanding of photochromic lenses - the ones that adjust to the outside light - is that the chemicals are time limited. That's not normally an issue with lenses which are changed every 2 or 3 years but I understand its not ideal for shooting glasses when you might want them to be...

British World Champions @World Compak Champs

The trouble with using bus lengths as a measurement of lead is that you spend a lot of time waiting to put lead on anything and then along comes a clay that needs two.

    Kegworth SG

Yes - I would (personally) have no objection to the previous comps targets to remain on etc. But I am still learning. I can't comment on exactly what the grounds do only the gist & intention. Not saying it's right or works all the time. I've not had that much experience of 'cheating' but I'm...

    Kegworth SG

My understanding was that they had practice of the previous comps targets and that they were changed for the following day/comp. Honesburie certainly do that though I have not checked recently.

    Kegworth SG

I have shot Kegworth three time over the past 18 months. It is without doubt one of the hardest grounds I shoot at and noticeably so - my average there is 66 otherwise 77 (perhaps 75 at the time). I'm not saying that's a factor in my not going - this year I am part of a regular squad and...
