Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

My local shoot puts on a fortnightly 70 bird as standard (you can shoot 50 of course) and an 100 bird every 4/6wks or so.  If the 100 bird was a regular option though, I'd still shoot the 70 far more regularly because for me, the 'additional enjoyment' I get from shooting 30 more targets...

WTD - Beretta Optima HP Extended IC

Try the Gun Trader website... https://www.guntrader.uk/equipment/shotgun-parts-accessories/beretta/chokes Might not have what you're after just now but there is a decent turnover. I picked up a pair of Optima HP Extended 1/2 for £40 earlier this year so what you're after will turn up at some...

    Detail over Contrast…

So do Specsavers do polycarbonate (or like impact resistance) lenses or do you just use regular lenses? Thanks,

    Detail over Contrast…

My take away from the video was the exact opposite. They seem to advocate using as light as possible a lens. Circa 22:30 on the video.

    Detail over Contrast…

Given the variety of clay colour, course environment, weather conditions etc, what are peoples go to colour?  Other than direct sunlight, does anyone change lenses regularly whilst going around a course?? Thinking about investing in a decent set of glasses as I currently just have a cheap and...

    Detail over Contrast…

It got me thinking that, other than the extremes in light condition, say evening woodland on an overcast day and targets into the midday sun, is lens colour the ocular equivalent of choke changing?   At least with chokes we’re only ever realistically moving up or down one, maybe two, degrees...

Thought I’d share this YouTube video. Some really interesting information and very well made.  Would love the opinion of our resident expert, @EdLyons?? Hope you all enjoy over a brew. H

    Fiocchi Litespeed 26g no8 cartridges

For whatever reason, I couldn't get on with these cartridges at all...to the point that I exchanged the two slabs back at my local gun shop.  They are certainly snappier than most and as someone that's not recoil sensitive, these did raise an eyebrow with me. And whilst I'm not blaming the...

    Great feedback folks. Thanks.

To see, or not to see...

...lead?? That is the question. We all know a "I don't see lead" shooter and similarly know plenty who know how many feet respective targets need. Me personally, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't...but I'm less comfortable with the concept of not seeing lead because I don't see how I can...

    choke and cartridge

Choke constriction is certainly one of the primary contributing factors to pattern but it is also undeniable physics that smaller, lighter projectiles will disperse at a faster rate than larger heavier projectiles….i.e 9 shot will open up faster than 6.5shot. That’s the reason I’d change shot...

    choke and cartridge

Personally, I feel that cartridge and shot size makes a bigger difference than what chokes I have in. If, for whatever reason, I started missing everything close in, I'd sooner look to change to 9shot on those targets than start messing with my choke set-up.

    choke and cartridge

1/2 & 1/2 for me with F Blacks. I've hit enough long stuff (60/70yrd) with 1/4 and enough close stuff (10/20yrd) with 1/2 to have confidence in either on any ESP layout. Given that I'm not a choke changer, I choose the 1/2 & 1/2  primarily because I've reasoned that I could do with 'the...

Is your gun a tool or something you worry will get damaged?

As I tell my children: “If you’re fortunate enough to own nice things, the very least you can do is look after them.” I think we’re all in agreement here…look after your kit and your kit looks after you.

    Berretta 694 problems

692 owner with the older 'fancy' ejectors and never had a problem with any aspect of the shotgun.  And whilst the on/off ejectors can be a minor irritation, you just switch them off and forget about it. On the odd occasion that the lug has spun over (count on one hand the number of times in four...

    Looking after your wood

Trade Secret GP Wax Polish for me. Rub it in, buff it away and enjoy a wonderful finish...and smell! As above, tiny jar will last circa 10years I reckon!

    extreme

It's a fair point, come to think about it. Granted, different manufacture materials/product lengths will effect weight of choke and therefore gun balance and I've read that ported chokes hold wads back to reduce muzzle flip, better patterns etc but surely, accurate constriction should be...

    Another price increase

The more I practice, the better I shoot. The better I shoot, the more I enjoy it. The more I enjoy it, the more I do it. 😃 However..... The more I do it, the more it costs. The more it costs, the less I practice. The less I practice, the worse I get. The worse I get, the less I enjoy it…and...
