    How to get better?

I did reach the 'plateau ' ! Unfortunately I did not have a head for heights, got dizzy and fell off. I now just stick to the lower levels. 🙄

    Winchester 101XTR Ejector timing

Mine spent almost 38 years in the cabinet ! Took a guy to buy a gun in 1992, I advised him to buy this one. It came with 2 sets of woodwork, Sporting and Trap. Also the original receipt and the cardboard boxes it came in. He bought 1000 cartridges too, at time of purchase. I have 350 of them...

    Winchester 101XTR Ejector timing

Was there a final outcome to this thread ? I am interested because I am currently using a Classic Doubles Trap gun for all of my clayshooting.

    Recoil problem

I have a 6lbs 3ozs Westley Richards S x S 12 bore, which was fitted by the makers in the mid 70's. Although I have never shot 1000 birds in a day, that gun has seen some work. My usual cartridges are 28 gram 5 or 6 shot, all fibre. However, I have shot some 'tall' birds with 32 grams too. I have...

    Chokes

The Briley flush chokes, like the Teague, or the Manufacturers own flush chokes are identical, apart from the name on the side. I use the extended version for ease, more than anything else. Funnily enough, I use a Beretta choke key because it is light to carry. Oh, and it's cheap ! I'm not...

    Chokes

I do not think the make of the choke makes any significant difference to the way it performs. I have always used Briley chokes because I am more than happy with the way they stay put in my gun during use. Would you put up with having to stop and check your cars wheel nuts every couple of miles ?

    Chokes

The secret is buying a gunslip that is 'free standing'. Stick it in the gunrack, unzip, remove gun. The slip stays upright until you return the gun to it, zip closed, and carry on. I hate to see people remove a closed gun from a slip, then wave it around whilst looking for somewhere to stick it...

    Chokes

I have enough to think about when I am shooting without having to faff around with my chokes too ! I stopped using Teague chokes years ago, because they kept coming loose in my Beretta auto, swapping them for Briley. I now use solely Briley in all of my multi choke guns. I put a drop of Lucas...

Ah, right they will be for those 'expert' shots that do a little dance, before they call for a target.

    ClayMate on Solo

I am first and foremost a game shooter, I am therefore used to holding the gun in my right hand, with the stock on my right hip, barrels at about 45° pointing forwards and upwards, (on a clay ground, not a game shoot). Press the button with my left hand, then drop the gun down into my left hand...

    ClayMate on Solo

If I am shooting alone, I hold the closed and loaded gun in my right hand and push the buttons with my left hand. I either clip the buttons to the shooting stand or stick them in the left pocket of my skeet vest.

It is quite simple really. At the grounds I go to, i put 100 on my claycard and pay up front. If there is more than one shooter in the group, we add 100 per shooter. The ground adds 10% for breakages. If you are on your own, you get 110. There are 14 stands for 100 targets, 'you do the maths'...

CPSA Registration What next ? What to Expect ?

Just a word of warning though ! Make sure you don't talk to your shooting pal when on the shooting ground. The last Comp that I shot in, I had a someone like yourself, a 'first timer' with me. We were discussing as to how he should approach to shoot the stand. We were some 20 to 25 yards...

    MK38 Trap Stock

Are you sure it is an MK38 ? It looks very much like a 3800, especially with the Monte Carlo stock and the long tang trigger guard. I had an identical gun for around 17 years, that was a 3800. I could be wrong. It is worth checking though, as an MK 38 stock would not fit the 3800 action.

    Cartridge for new shooter .

Yes, you are right. F Blues in plastic. It's the Hull Superfarts I have in both plastic and fibre. Just a word about storage, try and store cartridges inside at around normal temperatures. Some of the worst fouling, including flakes of powder, that I have seen, have been caused by cartridges...

    Cartridge for new shooter .

I was given a box of Lightspeed to use recently, by a shooting pal. I thought they were awful, and they had a kick like a Donkey. He took the remaining 350 back and swapped them for somethinga bit nicer to shoot. Funny how different cartridges perform in different guns. I have used a lot of...

    32gm 5's

If you have to resort to doing this, maybe start to shoot birds that are more than within your capability ! Do you really believe that the smaller shot sizes 'bounce off' the birds you are shooting at ?

    Cartridge for new shooter .

Take heed of all that has been said, in particular the bit about a lesson or three. I don't think a 'bad' cartridge exists any more, BUT, as you gain experience, you will tend to favour one cartridge over another, for various reasons. I was an ardent Cheddite user, dismissing other makes...
