Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Northampton for me too. 79. I'll take that. It's a well run shoot which always has something challenging and the right balance of clays - more than hard enough to create worry with some to keep you upbeat. The rain was a shame - some of the clays were lost a little in the 'fog' and in quite a...

    LH Eye Dominance

I understand your points. For me, things such as top lever, palm swells & triggers are choice and not best associated to the guns orientation – heavy palm swells can though dictate if the gun (or stock) remains very LH or RH going forward. Easy for a lot of these things to become marketing hype...

    LH Eye Dominance

In terms of cast, I agree with Ben - it is incorrect to refer to it as left or hand handed as its a measurement from the straight irrespective of the shoulder shot from. Palm swells are a personal choice and I would agree that they can (particularly when quite full) dictate the potential market...

    LH Eye Dominance

Obviously get your eyes sorted first and ask them about the dominance issue - it may well be obvious to them (and you) from the prescription both in terms of reason and degree. We're not qualified to comment too much on here about such things beyond personal experience - and mine is the same as...

    LH Eye Dominance

Buy a left handed gun. Worked for me and is the only true solution. Give it 250 cartridges and it will feel very natural. The big plus is that your right hand (dominant) is doing the pointing. There are plenty of posts on this forum regarding eye dominance and anything Hamster wrote is well...

    Cone height

I disagree - Most, if not all, of contributors here - both on this thread and the forum generally - have both common sense and experience. Different opinions - Yes - and that allows for constructive discussions and a reputation built and not relied on.

I don't think DaveJH was confused by the type of help/advice being offered here but why a thick comb might reduce the effective cast on a gun. Happy to hear your opinion (and those of others) on that point if you think I have got it wrong or described it badly or there is a good source of...

    Cone height

As cast is measured from the center line of the stock, a wide comb has the effect of reducing cast as your cheek sits slightly to the side of the comb and not actually on it. If you have a thin face the effect is less - more if you have a fat face. If its confusing think of the extremes - a 4cm...

You do need to get someone to look at the fit whilst mounted. EJC is a very nice ground and I would make the journey to see Will. There are so many things that might be wrong (or right). The 694 has a wide stock, which reduces cast, and if you head is too upright etc. etc. Will has correctly...

Anyone used Cheryl Hall for coaching?

My experience of her as a person too - Ended up on my own in a 'squad' front of her at Honesburie (and behind Paul Bachelor just after he had won the Open) and it was smiles all round and the only pressure was from me. My daughter may have lessons next year and everything I hear puts Cheryl at...

    Noob Again - Lead

Assuming you are the same "Bordergun" - though noting you write about the book without saying you're the author - I'm not sure how the thread (not any individual post) helps us. In short it's a series of posts arguing about the benefits or not of the system (or similar). For me, all the thread...

    Choke Grease

Same as Martin for me - Beretta chokes (and Teague & Briley aftermarket) tended to work loose hence the PTFE tape and then Rocol Sapphire. I do not choke change so they can stay in for 500 or so and then get a clean then - I keep a eye on the extent of fouling and ensure I can easily free them.

    Choke Grease

I did use the thinnest PTFE tape for a while - It holds the chokes in well and they don't work loose but I got a bit worried about gas & crap build up.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Take it easy & best on the recovery - Better to take your time and come back when you are ready.

    Choke Grease

Rocol Sapphire. Bit sticky/messy but if you don't change chokes it doesn't work loose. Not too spenny.

    Pilla -why so dear?

Oakley were the best alternative - they do glasses for the US military (TR22 & TR45) which are very good for shooting. I think the issue is materials - the plastic is key and maintaining clarity and conformity. I don't think its just Phillip Pilla but also Zeiss whose products are never on the...

    Pilla -why so dear?

There are the 'double' profits to consider - both Pilla & Zeiss must make a decent margin.

For Sale FOR SALE: 30” Beretta 692

It might be helpful to provide some further info - left or right handed, barrel length, LOP, age etc. Without this you might get a lot of PM's asking the same thing or none because its basic information which buyers would expect to be provided without PM exchange.

    Introduction and gun fit question

Quote from "You're Behind It", Page 35 (bottom para). “So why do I suggest using a 4 unit lead on both the 15 to 20 yard crossing shot and the 20 to 30 yard crossing shot. Because we have two variables to consider as we trigger the shot. These are the slight differences in gun speed and the...

    Introduction and gun fit question

My copy of “You’re Behind It” arrived on Monday. I have spent about an hour on it including reading in full the chapter on the “Unit Lead System”. For me it is a rework of the maintained lead system, and dependent on gun speed matching clay speed. That may or may not be a good thing. Peter –...
