Muller Chokes - are they as good as they claim to be?

There’s the problem , I don’t think there’s a benefit , you do , let’s think about this , if Beretta the biggest arms manufacturer in the world can’t make a choke that suits their guns , no one can . What I would say is people buy chokes for many reasons sone valid some not . If a few top...

Muller Chokes - are they as good as they claim to be?

It’s a tube machined to +\- tolerances in a factory , inserted into a gun barrel made to +\- tolerances in a factory . It might or might not print and approximation of a designated ckoke percentage on a static bit of card using one or more specific cartridges . After that it’s how much you...

    New gloves time!

Which McWetts have you got ? My go to clay gloves are the short cuff versions , but on bad days, when game shooting I’ll use the long cuff climatec McWetts . If you want some real comfort get some Dents leather shooting gloves ( dry day winter game gloves for me ) with fold back trigger finger .

    Rifled Chokes

In the good old days chaps heading to India and Africa would buy Paradox guns , full rifled barrel shotguns that would take a solid slug too . think spreader chokes of any variety ( like the Beretta claim of only short distance ) are popular in certain areas of mainland Europe where along with...

    Major or not?

Yes , I remember shooting their Gurston Down Classic . It wasn’t squadded and to get people out early had prizes on every stand for the first ten shooters to shoot a straight . For years I had a table lamp in my office made from a bottle of Moet from a straight .

    CPSA V BASC

BASC have some good discount deals on cars ( currently 10% on a Hilux 12% on a RAV4 for example ) , also 4 times the membership of the CPSA , so are more likely to be able to attract freebies like the game fair and northern shooting show . Their free magazine is pretty good . However its...

    Ear defenders

It depends what you want besides hearing protection . If you prefer total isolation from start to finish , that will take you one way , if you want to have the ability to have normal hearing , then cut off the bang , that’s another choice . Next is do you want to be able to amplify ambient...

    Shotgun grant interview

Never had a problem in my last house with 12 slabs inside a built in wardrobe . The Section 1 stuff had to have a seperate safe , but as shotgun ammunition tends to be very bulky and heavy there is no mandate for steel storage boxes . I’m not a big fan of storing any ammunition in the same...

    Shotgun grant interview

The strange thing about shotgun cartridges is that you need a certificate to buy them , but not to possess them . Therefore no one will commit an offence if for example you share a cupboard or wardrobe with a family member . Obviously you need to assess the risk in the house , you would keep...

    Shotgun grant interview

The main point of the interview is to establish your attitude to owning a weapon is solid . All the background checks will have been done . So it’s about you keeping it locked up , keeping the keys secure ( a seperate key safe in a cupboard is liked by the FEOs around these parts ) and generally...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

I’ll probably get slated by half the members of this board but here we go , if your gun is serviceable , and it fits you , it’s presumably been supplied with some sort of rubber pad , and you have a basic level of competency , there will be no issue whatsoever shooting 28gm loads ,I’m assuming...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

The one thing that no one has suggested yet is to simply get him a shooting vest with a shoulder pocket for a Browning Reactar pad ( other brands are available ) . If he doesn’t own a gun all the suggestions on fit etc are pretty irrelevant at the moment . The second point is that shooting...

Thin young lad needs a no kick gun!

Agree with Perazman, the only real advantage a 20g over/under has over a 12 is on average they are 1 to 1,5 lbs lighter to carry if you are walking a long distance , which isn’t really relevant on a clay ground . Firing the same shot weight at the same velocity through a smaller diameter tube...

Remember to put your glasses on

I never shoot without specs , I never have even when I didn’t have a prescription. I’ve got a very strong safety culture , having seen some horrible injuries during my working life due to shortcuts with wearing PPE . Today on a simulated day , on a ( clay ) partridge drive , i was struck by a...

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

I’m on a pretty relaxed Sim Day on Monday , I’ll use a slab of cartridges in a day perhaps 50 shots on a ten minute drive and that’s taking it easy. I’m taking 2 properly fitted o/u guns , recoil is not a problem if your gun fits you and the cartridge is sensible for the weight of the gun .

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

The best sounding auto in the world to load , all steel , and a very pleasing noise when it cycles . A proper thing engineered , and built in Belgium I believe . Never an issue with it as long as you used ‘Manly ‘ cartridges with a bit of poke and decent shot weight . My mate had the skeet and...

    Who Doesn't like A Semi....?

From what I’ve seen over the years , the early adoption of a self loading shotgun is very influenced by the people who introduce you to shooting . 50 years ago , my best mate had a Browning B2000 gas auto , The lad we shot with had Remi 1100 so I bought a Winchester 1400 Winchoke gas auto ...

    Beretta A400 Extreme Plus

If you decide you want an FAC shotgun , unlike your SGC application, you will have to provide a genuine good reason to own one , and if that reason is practical shotgun , I believe you will have to join a club and serve a period of membership as a probationary member for 6 months , with...
