    summit ascent

These were my ramblings after I initially bought one in 2015 https://www.shootclayforum.com/topic/14571-i-have-bought-a-new-gun/ 2020 and I still have it, it definitely shoots flatter than my DT10 and echo clynt’s view in that they work best blotting the clay out or as near as damn it compared...

    Interesting

I think the theory that less shot is somehow better got some traction because in disciplines  where the mandatory change from 32 to 28 or 28 to 24  the overall average scores were said by some protagonists to have actually increased after the change.  Obviously the causation for this alleged...

    Steel shot debate.

This link from the UK importer GMK explains it better  https://www.gmk.co.uk/pdf/choke-constriction-chart.pdf As the notes state the chart is what a choke should give with common loads not that it will give that with every cartridge including different lead ones. So it is dependent on your...

    Semi auto for clays

I can't comment on other makes as I never had them but I have shot a lot of clays (auto shoots and as my 2nd gun)  with my Beretta AL391 Teknys Sporting and wouldn't hesitate in recommending one for clays.

    Alternative to Cast

@Lloyd I have shot with Ed a few times and watched him coach a mate in an informal freebie. He certainly knows his stuff and backs it up with good communication skills. IMO if Ed couldn’t help you with coaching then I’d give up trying to find a coach 😂 Nothing better than coming away from a...

    Alternative to Cast

The way I see it is a custom stock is to aid with a consistent sight picture the shooter likes. Some shooters can consistently mount a gun with a stock shaped like an old broom therefore any custom stock fitting is superfluous. Some shooters really struggle and a stock that is designed to make...

    Shotkam

Holy thread drift😁  getting back to the shot cam closest I’ve ever had to using one is shooting the clays one handed and holding my Iphone Xs set in slow motion in the other. No idea what it taught me apart from I can hit clays one handed holding an Iphone but it did make an interesting Facebook...

Semi auto gas question. Hatsan Escort cycling

The gas port is in the same place regardless of barrel length, once the gas reaches this port the breach opens so any excess pressure that a longer barrel may or may not give is vented to the atmosphere via the open breach therefore a 24” will not be any disadvantage. Depending on model and age...

    Practice makes...

It's the whole point of an internet discussion forum, it would be pretty boring if we didn't have posts like yours.  Some of the very top shooters do a fair bit of shooting but away from normal CPSA registered shooting and have other commitments on Sundays, it is not like those shooters need to...

    Practice makes...

I’ve always found this average thing a bit odd even though I chased them myself. When I was travelling and shooting a lot and shooting a different ground every week and not returning to some months on end I was comfortably in A. If I cherry picked my averages for the year with just 4 of my...

    12g v 20g 24g cartridges

The only problem I would foresee with serious competition shooting is less room in the cartridge to play with.  70 mm cartridge for both gauges 28 grams of shot same amount of powder needed then the wad has to be less.  With fibre wads or lighter loads probably not an issue but with 28g...

    Chokes

Straight answer tight chokes can increase recoil, the physics backs  this up and the the testing  done by Mr. Winston also confirms this.  There was another thread on this here that goes into it a bit more. ...

    Browning ultra xs Pro

Back in the day I had an Ultra XS for quite a few years as my main gun. I will give you a run down on the faults with it and what they have changed for the pro version. As Westward says the XS were very nose heavy like a pig on a shovel, one main reason was the standard Midas chokes were made...

Cartridge Speed - How important ?

Most Cartridge manufacturers use a test rig so the bore and choke are the best design to get the most velocity out of them and not always realistic to what you shoot. In the UK manufacturers tend to measure observed velocity at 2.5m then some calculations to work out the muzzle velocity. Some...

Cartridge Speed - How important ?

In simple terms yes, however ‘most’ modern cartridges will do the bulk of the acceleration in the first 10” then after that it will continue to accelerate but at a greatly reduced rate, but its maximum velocity will be at the end of the barrel. We then have the fact choke can increase velocity...

Cartridge Speed - How important ?

If you look at the simple calculation I did earlier 100 fps difference over the full 40 yards means the maximum a clay travelling at 40 mph moves is about 3 inches,  obviously in the real world it will be less than 3” due to the velocities involved not being constant and everything slowing...

CPSA Statement on disqualification at World Sporting 2019 Northbrook USA

But it does say ... under our CPSA Championship T&Cs cannot shoot our CPSA Championships. So that means he is got to be either suspended or banned by someone if not the CPSA. Or he could compete in those as well.     And if you are suspended you are not banned which would also  be...

Is pellet size just another head thing?

I think that link is wrong English 7  is usually 2.4 mm certainly The Eley shooters  diary, Hull cartridges and  Clay and game list English 7 as 2.4 mm.    Goes back to my original point, I have seen people argue over shot size without knowing the actual mm they are using themselves.

Is pellet size just another head thing?

The trouble is you are not always too sure what size 7.5, 8 or 9 actually is in the UK. 7.5 Italian is 2.4 mm for Fiocchi, Eley and the like, Hull  7.5 is listed as UK  2.3 mm and 7 is 2.4 mm. Gambore well  I have heard they were loading with Italian sizes and UK sizes depending on who you ask...
