Sporting shoots. Your personal accounts. 2022

AGL today. My first shoot in over 4 months due to enforced absence. I was fully expectant of a poor score. The first (possibly 5 maybe 6) stands were very close, nothing really requiring a hint of a gap. Quite fiddly and care required. I dropped 2 across these.  Stand 8 caught me out for 2 on...

    Technical targets

I would also add to this. A technical pair for me is a pair of targets thrown in a way which requires optimal method application. With particular focus on hold points, gun speed, where your eyes need to be and what you should do at the transition phase between targets all being critical. For...

    Key safe

I don’t think you’ll find many people who do this so you might struggle for responses/recommendations. There’s nothing wrong with choosing to use one in my opinion and if I remember rightly from another post your partner had some undefined nervousness around you having a gun in the house, and...

Wanted Mk38 grade 5 adjustable comb

Do you literally mean the comb only? (Unsure why you would) Or an adjustable stock grade 5? Ring Matt at Premier guns. He normally has a treasure chest of MK38 parts including stocks and barrels.

We don’t talk about that AGL trip Will.. 😂  Yes I think so, so many concentration stands without anything nasty. Stand 4 I was lucky enough to see that shot, so had planned for it. Just good fortune. In fairness I started stand 1 and took 0.25mm off of about 4 clays - thanking Sean for his good...

Sporting shoots. Your personal accounts. 2022

EJ reg today following a morning trip to Owls.  First of all - what a squad. Absolute pleasure meeting each and every one. Best squadding to date for me. Shot 92 - thought the course was really good. Decent variety, although did miss the usual setup on the ‘scaffolding’ area. Dropped two on...

    Cristian Ghilli,

I can’t for the life of me work out how that would even be possible?  Terrible shame.

    Wanted; Miroku 3700/3800 stock

Try calling Matt Morgan at Premier Guns (Doveridge). He usually has a decent supply and I actually sold some parts to him a few months ago including a stock.

    Choke key recommendations??

Yup another vote for the tapered key. Teague unit available for about £14 I bought one not long ago.

Sporting Shoots 2021. Reports and discussion.

Churchill’s for me too - had a rubbish day by all accounts. Arrived to realise I’ve lost my ear moulds, assume left them at Horne over the weekend. So spent the shoot fiddling with my ears and dealing with a ringing sensation in the right after every shot. Not ideal. Actually shot so far under...

    Which one would you pick?

This. 100%. With regards to choice, my first gun was an adj MK38 (trap in 32”). Having been through a 725, 694, various Blasers, a SuperSport, Ultra XS, Zoli to name just a few.. I'm still shooting the MK38 today and posting my best scores.  The only place I’d go from my Miroku is a Parcours...

Sporting Shoots 2021. Reports and discussion.

Envelope to be collected from the shoot at Horne yesterday which is nice. Felt like I shot terribly in places too, which shows you just never know.  Looking forward to Churchills this week and also strongly considering the two hour drive up to Kibworth on Friday too - shows the bug is well and...

    New to clay

I would also add to this that where the weight sits in the gun (relative to you and your body shape) will make a big difference. For example a gun can feel very front heavy and aggravate the left shoulder on a right handed shooter, but by adding some weight in the stock (ignoring the fact the...

Sporting Shoots 2021. Reports and discussion.

Finally back shooting registered following the whole Covid thing! I've shot a couple of times at a local farm the past few months but otherwise been inactive. So, Gatton on Sunday just gone - 90. What you expect from Horne, everything there to be infinitely hit and if you miss, it's definitely...

    mid bead

Definitely without. All it does (and you see people doing it all the time) is to encourage you to close an eye and check your mount every single time before every single shot - as opposed to trusting your mount. It’s a bit of an anti-pattern IMO.

    Eye Dominance

Both eyes open, all the time - only exception being extremely slow rabbits where I may squint my left eye to shoot blank at it.

    694/Summit/Zenith

Shot them all, owned a 694 - stuck with my MK38. Not very helpful I know!

    Teague chokes

I’m baffled by this post chap? How would it be rude to join a clay shooting forum and advertise an item used by the member type of that forum? Without (certainly to my knowledge) contravening any rules. If anything you’ve made the forum seem entirely unwelcoming which I suspect would steer the...

    Trap / DTL etiquette

Is this really a thing? Blimey glad I don’t shoot DTL if putting your cartridges in the bin is enough to trigger a comment. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙈
