    Longthorne

I've shot 2 Longthornes, one a 'standard' sporter, can't remember the name but it was a lovely gun to shoot. But the one that really got me was the titanium gun, light with a polished rib the went invisible with the reflection of the sky. all you had to do was focus on the clay and it broke. A...

    Ear protection

Thanks for the recommendations, I will investigate the above and then look at a purchase once my gun fit has been rectified and confirmed that 'can' style ear muffs fit me and don't bang on the stock.  I'll see what my local gun shops have in stock so that I can take my gun along and test fit...

    Ear protection

Not really a scientific test but this morning I added 1/2 inch soft pad extension as an experiment when I popped out for a little private shoot with some friends. The extension pushed my head back along the stock, my eyes seemed more level and I shot very well so perhaps the stock has been a...

    Ear protection

Hi I use passive in ear protection but I also want to get a set of electronic over ear muffs but which ones. I do have some Howard Leight Impact Sport muffs, usually worn by my son, but when I use them they always knock on the stock however I try and position them. Does anyone know of any...

    Quick question, Miroku MK38.

Both my Miroku's stay open unless the lever is depressed. One is new and the other 20yrs old, they work the same

    Gun fitting - East Sussex

Hi,  I am getting increasing frustrated by my gun as my mount seems to be inconsistent and although I am told the gun fits by a respected dealer I am not so sure so I would like to remove doubt and get a 2nd opinion by a known expert. Anyone know of any said expert near East Sussex? Thanks

Bluing on a 725 Pro Sport

I find it odd that 3 semi's I have [Franchi, Remy and Mossberg] all have had a hard life and the blacking is still perfect. The 725 blacking just about fell off, I posted about on it here just over a year ago. My 2 o/u's are both Miroku G5's and no blacking is sight anywhere. I won't have...

    Walnut oil

My local gunsmith recommended Phillips English Walnut Oil. I bought a 20yr old MK70 Grade 5 in excellent condition but the wood needed a bit of oil.  3 very thin coats later and it looks really good, the grain really attractive now.

    Browning XS Pro Sporter

Just shows how personal gun weight, feel and fit are to individuals. And that is why I listen and respect opinions but you have to test/try a gun yourself before committing. I also now shoot an MK38 and after a few rounds I am now at home with it.

    Cracked stock

My 20yr old MK70 stock lossened after a while and I took advice and de-greased the stock bold thread and at the end of the action and tightened it with Loctite 243 Blue which has stopped it from coming loose.  Loctite Blue can be easily undone with hand tools my local gunsmith advised. About 2k...

    Cracked stock

Update: I must admit I am impressed, my RFD shipped the gun to Browning on Tuesday and it arrived back this morning with a new G5 stock. The colour match is good, just a wee bit darker.   Very happy with that result. 🙂

    Browning XS Pro Sporter

A friend has one and shoots sporting very well and skeet with Cyl/Sk chokes.  Very nice handling gun. I think he bought extra chokes from Browning

    Cracked stock

My Miroku G5 stock has cracked around the grip, It's a year old and has been sent back to Browning/Miroku for a warranty repair. The crack is hairline and not right the way through so the wood has not separated. I have been told that they don't always honour the warranty for wood breakage so I...

    Target distance

I was trying to work out the distance to a target today which I guessed was about 70 ish yards away. It seemed very far. It was a teal popping up over trees behind a bank so i had no clear view of the ground to estimate distance. But, there was a very discernible delay between bang and the...

    Cylinder choke

and does the above also suggest that often you hear that 24g holds a better pattern than 28g and by that I guess that less pellets also mean less collisions and therefore less dispersion.......  ergo a tighter/neater pattern from the 24g?

    Amber Hill.

I did, she was very calm and professional, a credit to any sport

    prosport

My fairly new 725 blacking came off the action, I was unhappy with it, sent it back to Browning who re-blacked it under warranty with what looked like fence paint and so I traded it in for a Miroku MK38 G5.

    Practice with tighter chokes?

I did practice today - half the course with 1/4 & 1/2 and half with Cyl & SK  Both the above were used on a variety of targets and overall I felt the 1/4 & 1/2 gave me more confidence and I think I lost at least a couple of edge on targets through the pattern with Cyl & SK, they...
