    Winchester 101XTR Ejector timing

Thanks Luke, there could be a build-up of crud somewhere that goes undiscovered during my fairly thorough cleaning sessions. If there's some undiscovered crevice it would have 37 years worth of build-up in it. Thinking about it I have never had the fore-end apart which is where some of the...

    Winchester 101XTR Ejector timing

OK, thanks for your response, I have looked at mine while still assembled in the forestock, they look OK and don't look worn. I think that it's whatever kicks them into action that is getting worn so they eject later and later

Are kickers the same thing as Ejector hammers?

    ported barrels

Generally considered to have been a passing phase but they are still out there, a mate of mine has one but it doesn't improve his aim ;) I don't know if it affects price but I wouldn't pay for something that might be construed as just a bit of a fad - unless the price was attractive.

    Winchester 101XTR Ejector timing

Hello All, I have a Winchester 101XTR that I bought new 37 years ago, I used it for years before semi retiring it but it still gets used from time to time as I occasionally let other people use it. The problem I have noticed is that it is becoming a struggle to eject the empty cartridges...

    Tramlines Who?

It's partly true, all the spares were bought up by an American company where you CAN buy them but their export taxes are crippling. I wanted a firing pin for my Winchester 101XTR and located an American company with what I needed. It would have cost £90 for the part with import/export duty. In...

    Tighter choke for newbies?

2/8 and 4 /8 for me, ;-) use barrel selector - (4/8) and (FBlu 7's) for longer targets

    Tramlines Who?

I have a Winchester 101XTR that has a single tramline, it might be of some use when checking the way the gun comes up to your shoulder and point of aim but I certainly don't see it when aiming at a "target" in my bedroom or indeed, when shooting

    To Choke Or Not ?

You already know what chokes the gun has - your words "I believe on the barrels it is marked IM bottom F top." (3/4 and Full) The markings won't lie, if the chokes had been altered you would see new markings on the barrels.

Should a pair of brand new Briley Chokes look like this?

Hello Jifen, (also an Engineer) I too would not be happy with the quality of these chokes, especially for that price. I'd ask for replacements. (Let us know what they say.) The chatter on the end of the thread is probably past the point where it engages with the female thread in the bores but it...

    Wanted trigger blade

I recall someone taking the skin off their forefinger when shooting with a new gun - the cause was a combination of the recoil and the knurled pattern on the blade

    Mid level Competition cartridge

Good work, however you are not getting what you might expect if they shoot a tight pattern. I use FBlus for longer targets (with pleasing results) and something with a more open pattern for close to medium targets.

Anyone shoot at Barbury or coleys?

It is nice to buddy up and go shooting with a mate, especially in the early stages of your shooting career, but that's not always possible for me so I'm not averse to going on my own and, to be honest, have had some great experiences shooting with strangers in squads, usually you end up having a...

    Newcomers to our sport.

I tend to agree that there should be no coaching during competitions, rules are rules. You might have been lucky enough to be squadded with lovely people like Donna and like minded shooters but a squad of "lady high guns" or perhaps a potential "high gun"and their like, however unpleasant it may...

Another price increase for cartridges at end of January

Thanks Westley, I did try a slab of 21g cartridges a few years ago now, I didn't try them on long targets but found them to be OK on close to mid-range targets. I would have carried on using them if there had been a better cost advantage
