Another price increase for cartridges at end of January

Thanks guys, Mallard Barn prices to die for but probably a 3 hour drive for me - sadly

    Pigeon Watch

It seems to be OK today, maybe a bit slow at first but it's working

Another price increase for cartridges at end of January

or price? I'm getting a sore shoulder after shooting, some internal problem, so I've just fitted an Isis Xpad to make a better job of shock absorption and have used 24g cartridges at the last two shoots, the combination of 24g and Xpad have made a noticeable difference with hardly a twinge...

    Shoot reports and news 2024

I shot Star Gun club 1 mile north of M25 J9, a non registered shoot which some of our members might be interested in. A friend who only comes out once in a while wanted something that was not too taxing and this filled the bill. You can shoot 60, 80 or 100 clays which I'd classify as soft to...

    Fibre and Choking

Interesting post, I'm sure there will be a lot of different opinions, having read a number of comparison reports based on actual test results I have formed the opinion that there will not be enough of a difference to make it worth worrying about. It is commonly thought that Plastic wads give...

    CPSA classification

when I look back over the last 6 months or so my scores vary plus 10 and minus 10 about my average which is quite a variation I suppose. It depends where I'm shooting, the weather, the layout on the day and whether I'm having a good day or bad day.

    Shoot reports and news 2024

(Westfields) I agree, it's a great ground but the first time I shot there I was shocked by the amount of falling shot and bits of clay onto shooters. As Will says, the layout is a big circle so you would think that the stands would shoot outward but that was not always the case on the day in...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

There were plenty of spaces in the first grassy area on the right as you approach the shoot but it was very wet. I do recall thinking that I was glad I have a 4WD, I was also glad that the person who parked next to me had one! 😬

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I shot Gunsite in the wind and rain today :) I quite enjoyed it, I really don't mind shooting in bad weather, I guess that years of pigeon shooting have conditioned me to it. The worst part of it is having to keep my glasses clear enough to be able to see the targets. I'm sure that the weather...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Its interesting to see that they publish the scores while the competition is in progress, so why do we have to wait 3-4 days for some shoots to put their scores up?

    Pigeon Decoy

take care because there are no pigeons in the countries where they are made and they don't look very lifelike, I tend to paint mine. I bought some lifelike shell decoys from Nitehawk a while back they came with a useful carry bag but cant see them on their site now :(

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Most people would agree, myself included, but there must come a point where being "challenged" is like banging your head against the wall and is just plain discouraging, it's a question of balance.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Fair comment Westward, but if we are looking for the reasons for Gunsite being better attended than Westfield (which we were,) it might be because people in general prefer a shoot that is not so much on the firm side. of course it might just be down to geographical location or some other...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

That's an interesting theory, last two averages at Gunsite were: 8.10.23 - 81% 10.09.23 - 80% Westfield: 12.11.23 - 74% 29.10.23 - 71% So at a glance, Westfield appears to be the tougher shoot. TBH I think Gunsite is tough enough, but as they say, no pain = no gain.

Good question, Gunsite and Hangman's Stone are always well attended

    Shotgun Cabinet Information

I recall the firearms officer pulling on my cabinet but not very hard. Before we entered the room where it is kept I closed the door to the room on him so I could get the keys without him seeing my hiding place, he didn't like that much but I thought it was fair. I let him look inside the...

    Choke Grease

It is worth noting that the threads used on chokes (mine at least) are not a standard 60 degree thread form. It might stay tight if it were. The screw threads on my 692 and my old Silver pig are square or squarish, like an Acme thread used on a lathe leadscrew. I'm sure that there are very good...

    Choke Grease

I may have done that too (although a little less frequently) until I started using Berettas whereupon I found I needed to use grease to prevent the chokes rattling loose
