Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Not a reg but rare day off for me today spent at Owls Lodge. Had a lesson with RF including the MK38 getting fitted (it was way out) followed by shooting the course with a friend - lunch in between of course.  Happy to say got the confidence back after a shocking Sunday m and looking ahead to...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Gatton Bottom today and (as Will already knows) first outing with the new gun.  Frustrating day, scoring just 60. Feel I’m shooting high, but could be one of a handful of things. Luckily I have a lesson booked in with RF next week so hoping he can take a look.  Weather wise absolutely...

try before you buy in SE

I can recommend EJ Churchill (Jon who runs the gun room will let you try anything 2nd hand, they've a range of demo guns).  Williams Evans at Bisley (it's quite close to me too) allow you to take guns out as El Spavo says - though I've always found them to be expensive should you decide to buy...

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

Yes you’re quite right, damn. Need an alternative plan in that case.

Sporting Shoots; where- and how was it? (2018)

I’ll finally be back on the Reg scene this weekend after getting the MK38 sorted.  Planning AGL Saturday and Horne Sunday, if people are around do shout.

    Hydrodipping

I have an MK38 grade 1 trap, and like you toyed with the idea of stripping the varnish and having it re-finished. In fact I nearly bought a far more expensive grade 5. Thanks in part to the chaps on here and in my shooting circle, I haven't bothered. I've changed some functional bits (pad...

    MK38 Trap > Sporter recommendations?

Just back from my visit with Nigel - probably one of the nicest blokes I've ever met.  Going with a kick-eez pad, spacer and angling the heel of the pad off. Considered tweaking the stock to full monte carlo but feel it's one too many adjustments at this stage.  Must have spent an hour and a...

    3/4 and full

Have to agree. I shot my MK38 full and 3/4 today on sporting layout - missed a couple of "usual banker" rabbits and other close up stuff. Minced anything even remotely rangey.

    MK38 Trap > Sporter recommendations?

So shot the MK38 today for the first time - absolutely lovely piece of kit.  It's set up in my best guess configuration (comb height, make-shift spacer added, original trap pad) but was a pleasure to shoot on my local grounds sporting layout.  Looking forward to Tuesday, travelling up to see...

    Cartridge Recommendation

I have an unopened slab of 28g fibre Comp X left over if somebody wants to take them off my hands - £40 Alternative is they sit on my table until they decompose.. .

    Cartridge Recommendation

I like and have settled into the Velocity+ in plastic 28g, but as the other more experienced shots have said these just work for me and my preferences. I did shoot Lyalvale power gold the other day after somebody handed me a box to try - I thoroughly enjoyed them but too rich for my blood!

    Over/Under first

I asked Ben this question once, why a particular barrel over the other (almost everybody says bottom first) expecting a technical answer or some justification as to why it's advantageous (e.g. reduced muzzle flip) but nope.  "I used to accidentally knock it onto bottom barrel when operating the...

    MK38 Trap > Sporter recommendations?

I can't keep saving money otherwise the Mrs will realise at some point and want a percentage!

    MK38 Trap > Sporter recommendations?

So, update.. I went cheap and purposeful.  Bought a single owner MK38 trap (grade 1) in 32" barrels with factory adjustable system. In original condition. The wood is, well, a grade 1 but mechanically everything is spot on.  Grand total of £900. Quite different to the £3600 I was nearly going...

Top 6 selling O/U new shotguns 2018 (according to Oxford Gun Co)

Me too! That's a list I would be very interested in & most likely persuaded by.

Top 6 selling O/U new shotguns 2018 (according to Oxford Gun Co)

Thought this was interesting. Source is Oxford Gun Co so whether entirely accurate or not who knows.  In summary: Only 25k new guns sold in the UK over the whole of 2018 - to me, this is much lower than I would have guessed and reinforces just how strong the second hand market is. The top 6...

    MK38 Trap > Sporter recommendations?

I'm with you - I've decided it's a silly move financially and not worth the outlay.  I've spoken to EJ and refund is an option, therefore I'll look at S/H market. If you guys come across MK38s that have had extended teagues/adjustable stock do shout. I'm keeping on top of Gun Trader and Gun Star.
