    Pre mounting sporting

Everybody used to shoot side by sides, targets were pigeons, then glass balls. Things change.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Was that a  R-L crosser? Missed the first one, convinced myself what I was doing was right, so I missed the second as well. Then I told myself to change something. Went maintained lead on it, and dusted it twice. Taking that as a win, because I'd normally carry on doing the same thing over and...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

4 & 5 were 2 of my best stands!! Dropped some stupid ones on the other stands, and 4 on st7 (sim L-R quartering & looper?). Should have shot the 1/4ing earlier to give me more time on the dropping looper. I always judge the difficulty of a shoot by how many A & B entries finish...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

The track to College Farm ground is the only thing that stops me shooting there more often. I don't want to replace my cars sump & suspension after every shoot. It's definitely a case of "Fancy shooting Hornet?", "That depends, who's driving?"

Shotgun certificate renewal ( photos )

Haircut by Mrs W yesterday. As she put the cape on me "Lift your chin up so I can do the cape up........................and the other one." And as for photos, I'm surprised my licence application wasn't rejected from the photo. Looks like I should have been holding a board with a number on it.

    First licence application

As previously posts have mentioned - declare everything. They already know all about everyone's police record, and if there's anything that will prevent you from being granted a licence, you shouldn't make it to the interview. If you haven't declared things then you may come across as dishonest...

    Essex Masters 2023

After todays score "update" it would appear only the top 15-20 overall scores from each class are being posted. Which means about 90% of us wont see our scores at all..................

    Essex Masters 2023

There's one shoot that I haven't been to in over 6 months that still don't get the scores up the same day. Fortunately most are pretty quick. I think the last time I shot Oxfordshire SS, my scores were on  the CPSA website before I'd left the car park! For big shoots like Essex, a photo of a...

    AGL - 21/04/2023 - Road closures

Just a quick heads up to anybody shooting AGL tomorrow. Windmill Road is closed as you come out of AGL and turn left.

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

Yep, can't say I know anybody who fits the median model and shoots regularly. Have on occasion seen £10K plus guns come out of the boot of 500 quid motors. Their money, spend it on whatever makes you happy. It's probably one of the things I love about shooting, you can have a £10k gun or a...

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

Likewise with the transport, there's 3 of us that share the driving for weekend shoots. Makes a difference. I'm surprised weekday registered shoots haven't taken more of a hit. If you figure in Mr/Mrs Average, on the UK median salary of £640/week, it's also "cost" them £128 to have the day off...

Yep, anywhere I want to practice solo with Claymate is 40p at least

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

At my local club I shot a fair few Litespeeds in the past 18 months. Now Litespeeds are around £260, Fblus £270 and Fblack £275, a £10/£15 saving for the Litespeeds isn't worth the drive to pick them up.  Fiocchi are still the best value cartridges IMO. Even their top end cartridges are cheaper...

    Sporting shoots

For a targets only entry to a CPSA shoot, £40 seems the norm around this way (Herts/Beds/Bucks). 10 stands is the minimum required for a normal CPSA registered shoot. Most put on 12, some 13. If it's my local non registered shoot, then it's 100 over 10 stands for£30. If I want to shoot...

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

The Fblack 8.5 plastic and 8 (UK) fibre are cracking cartridges. Have been getting some good kills  with them and skeet chokes that I didn't think possible.

Honesberie CPSA shoot cancellation - Sun 14th April

If anybody was booked onto the registered shoot Honesberie this weekend it's been cancelled due to ground conditions. Just appeared on my Facebook feed. All other shoots there are currently as planned.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I dropped  2 of the first driven target on stand 2. It was coming out at quite an angle. With hindsight, I would have probably now stood differently and attempted it as a crosser.  Not sure what's happening with the scores from today, there only seems to be just over 60 entries posted.

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

EJC for me as well. Considerably drier than my last few shoots, which was a nice change. Invisible little devil on my shoulder kept whispering "You need these 2 for a straight".  One dropped every time. He's a little b***tard! Quite happy with my teals today and 1/4ing aways. Mucked up the...

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

In fairness, IIRC Aussie GST is 10%, where VAT is 20%, so they do work out a very similar pre tax price to UK. Still the fact that they've been shipped nearly half way round the world, so either the shipping cost is miniscule, or we're getting our pants pulled down. My money is on the latter.
