    Another gun related tragedy

Don't know whether I should admit this, but it was a few minutes from where I live (I so hope it wasn't something in the water). All the non-ballistic vests I've seen, though granted they weren't surplus or in the UK, have words to the effect of "not bullet proof" in large letters on the inside...

    Store gun with chokes

I think you're all making mountains out of molehills with this talk of cutting cabinets and welding baked bean tins. Surely the practical solution is to move to a house with a secure gun room? :P

    Is clay shooting a 'sport'

You're spot on, it's just that my compound bow didn't go "click" when the pulleys kicked in to ease off the draw weight. Some recurves that I've seen and used have a small device that makes a click when the arrow gets pulled all the way back, indicating ready to release. Anecdote (and sorry...

Hmm, better go back to lurking then... :P

    Is clay shooting a 'sport'

Goes to show how long ago it was that I used to use a compound bow, but if that clicked at the end of the draw it meant trouble (mine was silent, just got easier). Clickers were/are for recurves.

    Is clay shooting a 'sport'

Paul120, I apologise for any confusion, but I didn't say "no exertion involved with archery", I said archery and clay shooting had similar exertion and needed similar mental discipline. I used to be a competitive archer (inter-uni level in the UK, regional tournaments in Spain, albeit many...

    Is clay shooting a 'sport'

I did mean prone, and I know what you mean about aerobic rates, etc. It was more an observation in line with the idea of "sport" being physical, than a direct criticism.

    Is clay shooting a 'sport'

If archery counts as a sport, as do rifle and pistol shooting, then so should clay shooting - similar mental discipline, similar exertion, though not so sure about some of the rifle shooting. By that argument, however, and some of the above about exertion and physicality, tactical shotgun should...

    First Solo Session

Hi Pirate, I'll add to the chorus of "shooters are great". My first outing to a shoot sucked, royally. The " regulars" weren't happy at having a newbie clogging up their stands, and were rather vocal about it. Set me back a bit, and I never went back to that ground. But then I found this place...

    Bollox!

Sian, I can sympathise. I'm 5'10" and got whacked in the face yesterday by the stock of the guy in front of me in the clubhouse: he swung it (in a slip) onto his shoulder with a flourish and I guess the shoulder strap was a little long as I was a couple of feet from him and it caught me on the...

    Trap gun advise!

I was looking at a "vintage" Miroku trap gun, 30" barrels, Monte Carlo stock, at Stutley Gun near Cambridge. Around £900, and they're looking to sell...

    Jigsaws

Just saw this elsewhere on the web. Apologies to DB, but it made me laugh. "David Beckham is due on the pitch for a training session and he's nowhere to be seen. His new Galaxy manager goes looking for him and finds him in the dressing room and says, "Hey, David, why are you in here and not on...
