    Shooting fitness

I recently started the ‘couch to fridge’ program and it genuinely feels like I’ve found an exercise perfectly suited to my requirements 👍

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

I’m just glad I’ve got a heavy gun to soak up the recoil of the cheap cartridges I’ll have to buy to carry on shooting.

    Perazzi MXS Thoughts, issues?

Sorry to hear about your f16 experience. I had a different albeit similarly disappointing brief affair with one as well. Bought new from a good dealer it was incredibly stiff to open….don’t worry it’ll loosen up they said. 200 shots later no different, but an 8 hour round trip to Mulliners (who...

Wanted - Muller Optima HP U2

Thanks, not to worry…..I was getting my hopes up when I saw you had replied. I’ll keep a lookout but let me know if it crops up Ian.

    Perazzi MXS Thoughts, issues?

Never picked up an MXS, but have fondled a few High Techs…..I would have a High Tech now if they had more cast but as standard they were too straight for me. It did however feel a lovely balanced gun to hold.  Having said that I’m very happy with the new DT11 that I eventually settled on instead.

    Genuine question

Went out for some relaxed practice at Doveridge today and received some great advice from Paul Bailey (thank you sir!) Practice went really well, I tried to clear my head as much as possible and get back to basics, breaking the shot down and focussing on the process and not the outcome.   ...

    Recoil problem

As above Hull CompX are one of the well know cartridges low recoil. I don’t think they do them in 24g but they do (or certainly did) make them in both 21g and 28g 7.5s and 9s. There are other brands that do low recoil but these are the ones I’ve used. I also find that Eley Select plastics (and...

    Recoil problem

I’d echo everything Will said above….I really struggled with recoil when I first started, so I knocked off with 21g, then moved to 24g and now use 28g just fine. Gun fit is very important though, as is a decent recoil pad and a cartridge that’s not renowned for being thumpy! Isis green pads are...

    Genuine question

Thanks all for your replies and comments, looks like a potential mix of issues at play not least of which is my personal dip in form. Post pandemic I’ve only really stayed shooting ‘regularly’ again over the last few months and by that I mean maybe 2 or 3 Sundays a month and I am also aware...

    Genuine question

Thanks all, and interesting to hear your comments Will as they very much echo my own ‘journey’ the last year or two Looking back, I’m definitely struggling now compared to two years ago….just prior to lockdown I was regularly in the upper 70’s to upper 80’s at most shoots, but my average is now...

    Genuine question

Have ESP shoots got harder/thought the last few years or have I just got worse? I appreciate we had lockdown and that affected us all, but pre-pandemic I was fairly settled in A class and had been for a few years, even putting in the odd upper 80/lower 90 score During lockdown it was nigh on...

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

Sadly clay shooting will become a sport for the rich or at least the comfortably well off I just stocked up on 5 slabs of the cheapest shell I could find locally - fiocchi TT1 @£221/1000 but only available in 9’s.  I asked when they would be getting any more and the answer as no idea. OOS...

Blaser F3 thoughts, issues and advice

Very happy with my G4 F16 although at less than a month in, still in the honeymoon period!   The supplied flush chokes seem to throw some decent patterns too, hit some rangey targets at Kegworth last weekend with 2 x 1/4’s and 8s.  Just ordered a pair of extended Teague (2 x 1/4) just to...

Blaser F3 thoughts, issues and advice

Can’t comment on the F3, but I have recently swapped my 694 for an F16. I was happy with the Beretta but having had a fondle of the Blaser, it just felt nicer.  I bought it brand new and to be honest it was rather stiff, to the point of being distracting. So, after only 1 round of clays, and...

    Falling numbers of shooters.

People will either find the extra money needed to carry on shooting or they won’t. I think a lot of people like me, may see where they can economise…there was a time, not long ago, that I wouldn’t be happy to pay £200/1000 for shells but I’d still pay it.    For the same shell I’m now paying...
