    Falling numbers of shooters.

Yep hiking up prices will turn more away and attract far fewer. Park Lodge in Yorkshire seems to be by far the highest in my area at 40p per clay. It may be just me but I really cant see how they can justify that. Every regular shooter I know has shot there at sometime or another, but I dont...

Cartridge price increases now getting silly

Seems a race between the manufactures as who can increase their prices the highest. I have also noticed the mid week practice grounds seem to be sparcer , there is no doubt people are cutting back.

    Falling numbers of shooters.

Hmmm, interesting, i wonder what their reaction would be if you made a low offer for a nice second hand gun

    Falling numbers of shooters.

I think that is a poor and flawed business model, because the more you pitch your business up the wealth pyramid the more your customer base shrinks. From my experience I dont know of anyone who has packed in shooting for the sole reason of cost. However I know many who have scaled back their...

Well with the present econmic climate one thing is for certain, number of paricipants are unlikely to increase.

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

I would have thought cartridge companies would be investing heavily in research to sort out such problems. They will want to hit the ground running with superior products,  if and when the ban happens.

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

They may also consider putting wide exclusion zones around all the sites of the old shooting grounds. It would be like having numerous mini Chernobyl's up and down the uk

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

Yes totally agree, plastic has far more of an enviromental impact. However back to clay shooting, as far as the safety aspect is concerned the trap disciplines should not be an issue i would have thought. Sporting layouts could easily be adapted, but skeet layouts me need a re think.  As far...

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

Quite depressing reading, although not suprising. However i suspect we have a few more years before the ban comes official and then there will be a lengthy transition period, i will have probably packed in shooting by then anyway.

    Browning Midas chokes

Recently bought a 525 that came with them. So far so good. However i am lead to believe they throw a slightly tighter pattern that the standard invectur plus equivilent.

A cartridge only has 5 components, does anyone know which of these are actually made by our main manufactures in the UK. If a cartridge company buys in its components I would class it as a cartridge assembler and not a manufacturer and as such we dont really have a cartridge industry in its...

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

I seem to remember about 4 years back when you could still by the likes of select and superfast around £180. Steel cartridges were available about £150/60

I have moved on to TT1 which i believe are now the cheapest base cartridge around. I used to shoot Eley and Hull in the main but not anymore. This could be the death knell for Hull as Fiocchi seem to be able to produce an equivilent cartridge to theirs about £30 cheaper.  Yes Will could happen...

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

Vic my last sentance says it. "Is it a fair world "  Jeez, whats the west and europe comming to if we dont even manufacture something as simple as steel shot. We desrve to be shafted by the Chineese if thats the case.

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

I really cant see why that should be, surely the most expensive ingredient in any caryridge is the shot. Steel is far cheaper than lead and with the economies of scale if we are all on steal in a fair world prices should be lower. However is it a fair world.

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

I think you have called it correctly. There are the hard core top shots who travel up and down this land to compete, however they are definitely the minority . I would think the vast majority of shooters do it for the reasons you have described. I would even guess the majority of registered...

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

Dont think its turning the clock back, but could be seen as adapting to the future. Costs are spiralling and numbers will certainly drop off as a result. I shoot with a regular group a couple of times a week, its only informal practice . However i have noticed we seem to be having fewer shots. I...

    Another price increase

And if this pattern continues some manufactures will be the architects of their own down fall. Its OK just idly passing on their costs to the consumer but it will only have one outcome and their market will contract. Someone needs to put all their resources into a basic cheap cartridge with...

    WOW

Great idea !  Don't know that much about the little once a week/ fortnight grounds. But proper multiple open day grounds in my area Yorkshire. Best 2 for value Rufforth (northern ctc) and hazelbank. Both 26p per clay
