Lead Shot Ban, in news again

So the CPSA are trying to fob off the HSE, good luck with that one, think there is more than enough experience and knowledge available to the HSE to know the facts.

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

So according to the CPSA nobody shoots game/pigeons with 24gm or less of lead shot 😊 have they never heard of a 20gauge, 28gauge or .410 shotgun ? Then not all so called biodegradable wads are created equal, some take days/weeks to degrade others potentially many years.

why is there a shortage of maxam powder

Maxam outdoors the part of the Maxam business that manufactured the powder and owned about six cartridge manufactures like Rio for example has been sold to the NSI (Nobel Sports) so Maxam powder is no more. Nobel Sports already manufactures lots of different powders, so the likes of CSB5 will...

    Hull Sporting 100 variance

cartridge manufactures at this time may be struggling to get continuity of supply of components so possibly old and new may contain different components, if you have one of each why not take them apart and compare?

    ported chokes

“If you take a box of 25 shells and shoot at 25 different pattern plates, you will have 25 different unique  patterns that you have to average out, trying to prove that the ports are making the difference and it’s not just the inconsistencies of scatter gun shooting would be a hard ask. “ Their...

    ported chokes

thanks for the comments, given the holes are symmetrical round the choke, i would not expect them to alter the muzzle lift and as recoil, momentum is a function of the gun weight and mass of the payload i feel it unlikely to benefit recoil. With fibre wads, where the escaping gas could...

    ported chokes

I was hoping not to have to spend £80 to find that out 😊

    ported chokes

Hi what the view on ported chokes, in particular with fibre wad cartridges, anyone done pattern plate testing of ported vs non ported to determine any real world benefit. Rather than just opinion.

Question about factory shot shell weights

modern high speed cartridge loading machines run at 12,500 an hour and throw the powder and shot by volume so at what 0.288 seconds a cartridge from start to finish or 7.2 seconds a box of 25 they are a marvel of modern manufacturing given the consistency they achieve in such little time...

    Spreader Shell

All ways brings a smile to my face the idea, that law abiding, police checked firearms owners would knowingly and deliberately cheat. Yet some American disciplines I believe allow home loads (NSSA). CPSA will tell you it’s to do with safety, which is what they preach on their range safety...

    Spreader Shell

As you say the secret to life is honesty and fair play, fake a cartridge with a home load looking as good if not better than some commercial loads, which using todays tooling is easy to do, then you have got it made 😂 but not that i am suggesting anybody should or would.

if you home load your own, gualandi make these, never been asked for them but C&G stock them. https://www.claygame.co.uk/12ga-gualandi-super-g-spreader-wads-pd55

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

For 12gauge steel is doable, but what about the small gauges like .410 and 28ga they will struggle with steel even if and it is a big if biodegradable wads are available and then at what cost per cartridge. These small guns are a popular way into the sport for juniors, I bet many of us started...

    Misfire misery

May offer the same result but just to be correct, the “sales of goods act 1979” has now been replaced by the “consumer rights act 2015”.

    Buy out

Just for clarity, Eley hawk Ltd make the shotgun cartridges, eley who make the 22 are nothing to do with eley hawk, they both just occupy the same site being neighbours.

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

It’s a very large numbers game, the individual profit on a 1000 budget clay cartridges is not a lot, but they make millions of them and that keeps the factory gates open, the extra profit is from game cartridges and premium clay cartridges.

Should we turn the clock back to get more people shooting?

A German company lists it for sale but when get to the nitty gritty it is sourced from, you guest it China. So far all the steel shot I have seen has Chinese writing on the 50gallon drums. think simple to manufacture it may not be, uses same process as to make the balls for bearings, was told...
