    Fibre and Choking

I really like Hull Cartridges but interestingly (maybe), I really don't like Pro-Fibres (they leave a lot of residue in the barrels). I'm sure it's just me. I spent some time a few weeks ago putting different odds and sods cartridges that I had left over on to pattern plates using a variety of...

    Shooting and watches

In terms of any issues relaying to recoil, I have never had a problem with any of my 'posh' watches while shooting. Now, problems with the stock and/or forehand getting scratched on my watches is a different thing all together!

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Owls Lodge yesterday for Super Sporting.. and to say I made an arse of it is an understatement! Just couldn't put a score together. Very blustery winds didn't help. I have never seen a clay leave a trap, stop mid flight and carry on again! The Real and I just looked at one another and laughed! 😂...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

National Clay Shooting Center yesterday to try my hand at DTL for the first time. Fantastic facilities, a great group of people and I was very fortunate to have a great squad around me, helping me through the etiquette. I learned a lot in a very short space of time… Didn't implement enough of it...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

There are tough targets and there are targets that are unhittable.

What’s up with the high rib?

Until a few months ago, I was shooting a CG Invictus III Ltd Ascent that had the mid-rib. It looked stunning but looks don't break clays! I gave it 18 months and ALOT of cartridges but I just couldn't get on with it. I gave up and moved to a Blaser F3 Professional with a standard rib and I am...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Royal Berkshire today for their quarterly CPSA 100 bird ESP. I'm usually the type that will have a go at any target that is presented to me and if I miss, I miss...but today was just silly. The first 3 stands were fine, as you would expect from a CPSA registered shoot. Then it started to get a...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Cefn Tilla yesterday for their Super Sporting. Rob & Bob put on a fantastic shoot. A great mix of close, rangey and technical targets on offer. they definitely make the best use of the space available. The only downside was the weather, which was awful. Heavy showers and strong winds definitely...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I was in an early squad and had issues with depth perception on a couple of the rangy targets in the deer park. The fog seemed to lift in a space of 5 minutes, walking between stands 8 and 9! Some good technical targets and overall a really good shoot. Four more for me before Christmas. SSP at...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

I stopped shooting at Oxfordshire when they had a live trap, totally open and shooters were able to walk straight past it. When I mentioned it to the staff in the clubhouse I was greeted by a torrent of F's and C's from the head groundsman. Those who know me know that I shoot alot but I won't...

Sporting shoots 2023. How was it?

Tried ABT for the first time yesterday at Fareham Clay Target Shooting Ground. Lovely little club, very welcoming and great hospitality. It took me a while to get used to the discipline (and the etiquette), shot 14,17,19,22. Really enjoyed it. A refreshing change from ESP, SSP & STR. Having a...

    gureni

You will forever be fiddling with it and won't ever be happy with how the gun feels. Invest the money in getting the gun fitted correctly. Ben Husthwaite or The Gun Fit Company would be my recommendation.

How did you get on at Barbury?

Who would you recommend and why ?

100% Barbury. The Chaps in the gun shop will help and advise without being at all pushy. You can also try any demo/pre-owned gun. Great targets and a superb cafe!

    Shooting glasses

Barbury, Ian Coley, EJ Churchill etc... They have some orange clays but mainly black.

    Shooting glasses

Great advice about try before you buy. If you try the Pillas, don't fall for the 'look at that orange clay over there, it makes it pop out'… Most clays in the UK are black!

    Shooting glasses

I have used the XSight range of shooting glasses. the lenses are quite thick but overall they are very comfortable. Go for the lighter coloured lenses as the dark ones are VERY dark! Saying that though, I have also used Beretta Puull glasses and they are very good, comfortable and no fogging. I...
