    timescales slipped again

That's great that you got a reply, Lord V. I would guess the majority of MP's don't give a sh*t, Liddell-Granger just happens to have the sh*tty waiting times directly effect him recently. If L-G hadn't had the problems with his licence, I doubt he'd care too much either.

    timescales slipped again

Yep, noticed the same thing yesterday on West Mercia. Shotgun grants up from 8 to 9 months, despite saying in October "We can confidently say that this waiting period will be reduced in the coming months". Funnily enough Firearms grants are down from 11 months to 10! Very frustrating.

    help

To give you a comparison, I'm still waiting for my cert, I've had a similar amount of lessons and I shot 56/80 last weekend. I'd say change your instructor and get them to treat you as you've never shot before, checking eye dominance etc. and see what happens. The thing that got me to click was...

    magazines

Whilst you're asking that question, can i hijack the thread and ask what's the best magazine that covers clays and not a word about game!?

    No Shotgun Ticket Anytime Soon

Hi, Brand New. What Police force are you under? I'm in West Mercia and applied around the same time as you but still not heard anything yet.

    No Shotgun Ticket Anytime Soon

West Mercia used to list times in days like this. They were "working days" though, so 100 days is actually more like 4.7 months. Not sure if Dorset do it the same but it's an easy way to make the waiting times seem better than they actually are.

    Praise where its due

I'm glad you had a fast experience with West Mercia, Skeetfreak. I thought I'd share my experience of dealing with West Mercia. I applied for the grant of my first SGC back in June when the West Mercia website stated a wait time of 90 working days (roughly 4.2 months). Since applying, the...

    Clay shooting in Newcastle/Northumberland

Thanks for the advice. You're right, the people I've met whilst having lessons at Throckmorton have all been friendly, especially the owner who made me feel very welcome.  My instructor was saying she'd spoke to a group who were happy for me to tag along, which is good but it would be nice to go...

    Clay shooting in Newcastle/Northumberland

HI Will. I'm in the same boat as you. I started about 4 months ago but am still waiting for my licence. I just shot my first proper round of Sporting today and got 52/80 which I was disappointed with! I'm having lessons every other weekend with my instructor and getting to the point where I...

    Morning all from South Yorkshire...

Hello Hoplite. I'm in pretty much the same situation as you. Had a few lessons and applied for my licence straight away. I too have been doing endless research in to the question of what gun to buy! I'm currently leaning towards a Beretta 690 Black Edition or a standard 692.  I'm with West...

    Hello Everyone

West Mercia haven't been in touch yet. I emailed them a couple of times and they never replied. They were quick to cash the cheque though! I struggled with eye dominance too. It seems I didn't have a dominant eye, I could sort of control which I want to be dominant but have been trying to force...

    Hello Everyone

Hi Garry. I too am new to the sport and am also awaiting my licence from West Mercia police. I applied in July when the website said 90 days, it's since gone up to 6 months waiting time! I'm near Evesham, so if you're looking for another local novice to go shooting with, get in touch. If...

Couple of questions from a Newbie.

Thanks for your reply. I hope you're right. I'd be gutted if my application gets refused, I already feel massively invested in the sport.

Couple of questions from a Newbie.

Hi there. I'm new to clay pigeon shooting and have a few questions, if you don't mind helping me out. I've been having lessons for about 4 months, I think I've had 6 one hour lessons and probably hitting around 50%, my instructor says that's quite good but I'm not sure if they're just trying...
