Hearing a few shoots are now asking £90 a bird for a 500 bird day - the rate at which prices have increased over the last few years is nothing short of staggering
Wow .Hearing a few shoots are now asking £90 a bird for a 500 bird day - the rate at which prices have increased over the last few years is nothing short of staggering
£5k a peg for 9 guns, not for me I am afraid, I spent between £32 and £35 this year and very enjoyable, heard the increase in price of poults and feed may add about £3 a bird next season, one of the shoots was moving into VAT system so potentially another 20% on top. I would simply reduce the amount of days (I only attended 4 this season) and to be honest that would not bother me too much. Still plenty of rotund, rich people prepared to pay those sort of top notch prices so will have little impact for them I would suggest.Hearing a few shoots are now asking £90 a bird for a 500 bird day - the rate at which prices have increased over the last few years is nothing short of staggering
They’re working on the simple premise that if a gun can afford to pop £2000 for a days shooting , that they can afford to pay £4000 for a days shooting . Also being a little cynical , I think they are making hay whilst the sun shines , as I believe that I’ll see the end of shooting released birds in my lifetime .Hearing a few shoots are now asking £90 a bird for a 500 bird day - the rate at which prices have increased over the last few years is nothing short of staggering
Exactly same for me, I prefer our little DIY days, in fact I no longer have any interest in big driven days (pulling the trigger anyway)They’re working on the simple premise that if a gun can afford to pop £2000 for a days shooting , that they can afford to pay £4000 for a days shooting . The season Rod I had on the Wharfe in 2020 was £ 350 , last year it went up to £700 , ( I didn’t take it up) , although with Covid restrictions seemingly ending I might do next month .
I buy a few days on 100 to 150 bird days , and I look to pay the same rates +\- as Charliedog does . I’m actually not too keen on buying a single gun as with some it’s everyone for themselves and I’ve seen greedy guns shoot a dozen poor birds per drive .
The most enjoyable shooting I do is on a DIY syndicate . The 10 guns put in around £ 600 each , we shoot 7 days and a 40 bird day is a good one . The cost includes BASC membership ,a warm pie lunch , and tea in the pub afterwards . Around £20 a bird , low number but a great day out with good company . The price of grain doubled this year , but we’ve still got a couple of hundred quid in the bank .
Agreed, I only attend days where we have booked as a whole teamThey’re working on the simple premise that if a gun can afford to pop £2000 for a days shooting , that they can afford to pay £4000 for a days shooting .
