I was going to pm this to 40up but as the answer may be of interest to others I will go pubic.

what would be the best training for abt if there isn't any available UT or OT ?

OT..the crossover point for ABT targets is at the actual trap.

True, but ut is shooting to a centre ish point like abt so that was my dilema in deciding, but as always I accept your superior knowledge so ot it is, as we are on the subject would you consider ut to be detrimental if like me you are going all out for abt ?

Any shooting is beneficial. As we are on the subject, changing guns 8 weeks before your event is not a good idea. Saturation shooting with the gun you are used to is a good idea.

Point taken, you are right of course. What was I thinking :(

Think bad results due to weather and poor light got me frustrated, and you know what I do when I get frustrated, yep I start changing things. Thank you for bringing me back to earth.

The expression "walking on eggshells" springs to mind Ian!!! I am not going to be drawn on this one mate! I have somewhat strong views on what used to be ball trap as you know! I shall retire to my room now!!!!!

OT as 40UP says. I find thd cross over point much further out/high with UT than the other 2. Plus all the targets ard quick. Not just 1as in a UT scheme.

OT,UT won't hurt either would DTL (score building, got to get used to hitting large scores)

All trap shooting uses the same principles don't move to you have seen the target! Simples

Not convinced that ot is at all comparable to abt not if were talking abt from a trench layout as seems to be the norm these days. My reasoning is that a tight angle target from an abt trench layout appears very wide of the mark so a softer more general focus is required imo rather than a quite specific and known crossing point such as Ot therefore arguably ut targets or rather ut focus area is more similar to abt trench.

In fact for the pedants amongst us abt should be renamed as "abt trench" unless its proper old school abt.

I shall be having a good old face to face rant on the subject with me old mate les in April.

Bloody abt.

For me....and in my humble opinion....the crossing for OT and UT are similar....higher than the bunker.

If i look there for ABT...I am stuffed..!

I look at the bunker for ABT.

Mind you...i am sh*te at all of these so what do i know

Seems to me that the abt trench layout makes abt even harder as the pesky target exits the trench very wide of the mark, yes I know its the same angle from a proper abt trap house but because the trench is obviously wider it hides underneath.

bloody abt

I don't know much about the intricasies of trap shooting technique (as you know), and I openly admit I find them hard to shoot from both the physical and mental aspects but reading this forum for some time (as I have) I feel that the answer to your dilemma Ips is staring you in the face, but you just don't realise it yet

You need a Perazzi!!

All the top shooters have them, even some lesser shooters, so they can't all be wrong, can they?? Is it "horses for courses?"

P.S. I love my Berettas but thankfully I don't shoot trap so I am exempt!

It's no wonder that anyone new to the sport or those who predominantly shoot sporting have difficulty differentiating Trap disciplines, IMHO ABT is the Trap discipline that is so inconsistently set up around the various grounds in the UK. I have experienced various flavours that range from those grounds that claim to offer ABT which is really a slightly wound up version of DTL in some cases including the DTL Tin Trap house to those that are trying to launch the clays into orbit !

I may be wrong but I always thought that ABT was supposed to be an accessible form of OT, that to me, makes the most sense.

Oh jay how right you are. There seems to be no standard at all some trench some lowered dtl house some old angle some new. How hard can it be to set them as per book. Glad its not just me. But now you will get les started he is proper old school abt like me :)

There is no such thing as BALL TRAP these days! We now have a sort of single trap OT with a few angles missing! Proper Ball Trap is dead and buried! RIP ball trap!!!

Just out of interest, does this mean that an all round has also changed into the new 'tougher' ABT for that portion of the AR?
