hi guys im 19  and just started clay shooting with my boyfriend and im really keen just wondered if anyone knows of womans classes at shoots (north west area )  looked all over the internet and cant find anything, thanks in advance :)

Hi Paige,

Most CPSA shoots have a ladies category. Have a look at www.CPSA.co.UK and the fixtures listed.

Where in the North West are you? Welcome to shootclay :)

Paige -

Welcome aboard -  I'd definitely recommend this : http://shotgunandchelseabunclub.co.uk/ - run by a good friend of mine, Vicky Lacks - she runs some excellent days, all over the country.

The good thing with those is you get a little tuition, and you'll be able to connect with a coach local to you.

Vicky is great - tell her Matt sent you!

Hi Paige - I am based in the North West area, just a question - did you mean clasess in terms of lessons? or classes in terms of competing?

If lessons: the S&CBC as noted above are a good place to start, you'll find some likeminded ladies there, and am sure that the grounds that they are based on can accommodate you with gun fit/lessons/coaching etc...  There was a recent Shotgun and Chelsea bun club day booked for Manchester Clay Shooting Club which was cancelled - it will be re-arranged - a new date should be announced soon.   I am planning on attending - the idea of cake, tea, fun and shooting has drawn me in! Many shooting grounds offer lessons, these can either be group or private, there should be some information following the link that Jon supplied above.

If competing: The registered sporting shoots that I go to unfortunately don't have a ladies competition class - generally as there aren't that many of us competing.  However, as they are registered shoots you compete with shooters that are in the same classification as you.   You do find that most charity shoots, gamefairs and the major competiions (like the British open, Classic etc..) have a ladies category.

Hope that doesn't confuse things!

Where abouts are you based?

Sam

The Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club is AWESOME. I adore the meets and have made several friends to go shooting with. I was thinking I ought to post in the beginners section.

The standard at S&CB varies. It isn't always very high because the organisation itself is very new and a lot of the ladies who attend are just starting. I'd had two lessons at my first S&CB and was a bit shocked to be considered "experienced" at the next meet I attended three months later. I was high gun that day though and got a lovely pink rosette and a silver hip flask saying "game bird". The competitiveness depends also on the place. The EJ Churchills S&CBs have a lot more experienced ladies attend AFAICS. I can safely say that it's a lot easier than a CPSA registered shoot, but it's a lot more fun as well IMHO. People talk to you.

The really competitiveness of S&CB is over the cake. I am still sulking at losing out to the same person in both the cake-off and the shoot-off back in September :) It's why I took the soup last meet I attended.

There is a S&CB event at Cloudside Congleton and at Hodnet  very soon, both will supply first class facilities and tuition, Cloudside food, and fashion shop are to die for, ( so I am told).
