Found a tin of Ballistol in doors, I know it has it's origins in Germany and the blurb on the tin says you can use it for literally anything but has anyone ever used this for cleaning their gun and what's the verdict?

It was recommeded to me and I have been using it for the last 4 or 5 years. Seems to do what's needed, however I mostly (almost always) shoot Fibres so not sure how it deals with plastic fouling.

In short, I'm pleased with the product and would not hestiate to buy it again.

Fantastic stuff. It's all I use for wiping for a major reason. It can be used on both wood and metal and does not therefore adversely affect stocks in the way that mineral oils can*, and frequently do.

A major positive, IMHO and no negatives that I can think of.

Over on the rifle forums, where I mainly frequent, it seems to be very popular.

HTHs.

*About a year ago I was selecting a shotgun from a variety of used Brownings and Berettas from a major dealer.  Out of 5 or 6 I examined, all but one showed the black stains that are indicative of mineral oil having soaked into, and therefore weakening wood.

I am doing a test of some 6 so called CLP even if they don't put it on the front label but on the back. Pictures and stuff in about a week or so after the rust tests. The first ones did not work out as the new mini roof has an steel alloy that does not rusts after 5 days in salt water after the paint is removed!
