Another good shoot at Barrow Heath today with some truly tricky targets. Not impossible . . . . . just bloody tricky.

Was doing really rather well for the first six stands through the woods, but then the wheels not only well and truly fell off, but spun out of control, and disappeared into the next county  :prankster:

Unfortunately, for stands 7 and 8, we shot them at a time when the clouds disappeared and the low sun came out strongly, which meant there was one target on stand 7 that I simply couldn't see with these diabetic old eyeballs of mine (FAIL), and a right to left crosser on stand 8 which passed right through the sun at what would have been the perfect kill point, meaning you had to try and wait for it to come out of the sun but that didn't work (FAIL) or try to snap shoot it early before it reached the sun, got it twice (FAIL).

My lack of experience then let my head drop a bit as I had been keen to hit a decent score for my first shoot in B class. But sadly not to be, and ended up with a miserable 63  :shout:

Of course, a strong coffee and bacon sandwich later, got my head lifted up again and ready for all comers next weekend . . . . not sure where yet ?

On a much brighter note, we did see a few friends there today and also had the pleasure of Calamity Jane off this forum. Well, not wishing to start any rumours, I do mean the pleasure of meeting with her, of course  :nyam:

A very enjoyable shoot at Barrow Heath today - perfect weather. Agreed tricky targets but all hittable, not the best performance as did not manage to straight a stand despite killing the first pair on 8/12 stands. Must concentrate more!!! Finished on 71, so about what I usually hit!

The pool shoot was great. The targets weren't impossible so it was useful as a warm up before the round. Too many grounds have a pool shoot with extreme targets, but I always like to shoot the pool as a practice, so well done Phil for putting on a layout to suit all abilities.

It was good to meet Guerini Guy (and his Mrs). I would like to add that I do speak to the ladies as well as the men!!!

Calamity

Interesting, I thought it was just me on stand 7 where I struggled to see the rabbit, let alone the crosser!  Had the same problem with one of the birds on 8 as well and thought one or two of the other birds "down the hill" needed better eye sight than mine.  A bit out of my league I guess......!!

"A bit out of my league I guess...…!!"

Don't know what time you shot, but I had actually no complaints about the targets at all.

Yes, some of them were quite technical and tricky, but all hittable, and that of course is the challenge . . . . . . . . . . provided you can actually see them of course  :banghead:

That was my problem on those two stands. Combination of ageing bins and winter sun coming out at the wrong time. The crap after that was just my lack of experience.

You pays yer money etc etc  - no ground owner can control the weather, and to be fair it was meant to be overcast all day. I was just disappointed 'cos I was chasing after a decent score. Ho hum - next week it is then !
