Plastic ? Surely best to use fibre in the field - there are enough pressures on the sport from those that would wish to see it banned without littering the countryside with plastic

Flinging 36g no 3.5 like those into the sky must be at some seriously high birds (or bringing down ostriches), many people think plastic makes the duffference at that range and fibre isn't credible.

Personally I agree about plastic litter, I don't use plastic anywhere but then don't shoot anywhere where HPX 32g no 4.5 through 3/4 3/4 isn't enough, Im not good enough to shoot pheasant at more than Seventy Five yards away.

Thank you for your concerns and a heads up. Must say that here we don't do any driven high volume shoots but mostly do walked upon birds and wast majority of my quarry will be shot by DG fibres 5.5. Those HPX 4 plastics will likely see next decade before all 25 of them will be put to use and no considerable damage will be done I believe - still I am realy looking forward to give them a try.

P.S. The major difference I picked up on this forum is using rather small shot through rather open chokes. Here in my part of the woods ofcontinental Europe we derived from Germanic influence - meaning that shot size of 4 (3.0 mm) is considered small(est) and is usually paired with 3 (3.5mm) fro longer shots even on pheasants - but through 1/2 and 1/1 choke respectively must say. No 6 shot (2.5mm) was suppose to be used on woodcok sized birds. Your praxis is sound tho and I am looking forward to put it to use here.

Excellent, I'm sure you will like both.  I shot a partridge day on Saturday and used DG fibre 6.5 (28g) that were left over from grouse trips and they were perfectly suitable, I really like the DG cartridges but they are a fair bit more expensive than Imperial Game and the 28g have a green case which doesn't feel very well thought out.

Anyone giving these a try?

Well after all the deliberation and discussion I ended up taking part in a 200 bird partridge day on Monday on one of the flatter Lincolnshire shoots. I decided to try a slab of the hull high pheasant 30 gram 6's in fibres in the lovely blue case through 1/4 and 1/4. What a fantastic little shell, very smooth with moderate to slight recoil, they performed excellently all day, clean barrels, no unburnt powder. They killed very well indeed and to some fair distance as well on crossers at times. May even give some 32gram 5's a go for the pheasants later on in the season.

Bloody lovely little shell and produced one of my best performances at game ever.

funny you should mention high pheasant, I have just this minute got back from my tame smith with some 32g fibre 6s. I hope the recoil is low as I wil be going bang with the 28" game gun.

Just bought a slab of 40g 4's for the geese and a slab of 36g 4's for ducks/pheasants...I've got plenty 32g 4/5's for close stuff!!!

40g ... Ruddy ell how hard are you ?

I had a laugh with the smiths daughter when I asked for 30 but they only had 32g I said ok that'll do I will just use ibuprofen after the drive she says "man up and grow a pair" I think she missed the customer relations induction course...?

ps

I am known in the shop she was having a laugh knowing my humour ?

I think she was laughing at the amount of money you spend in there

I bought some 36g buffalos last week you can try a few next time we meet, but at £400 a thousand your not trying many

Just for the ABT pool shoot off??

Nope they got banned a few years ago after someone got hit on the walkway 300 yards away and the police came to the shoot

I did shoot a few at abt last week but do not tell Max

Good load for geese.  had more sucess with 4s than with larger shot sizes with a 12

40g of 4's through 1/2 choke it the K80 was killing geese really well last year, shot 10 of them last drive on beaters day on an extreme drive...was killing dead in the air the stuff the other guns were pricking. Used to shoot 50g BB's for geese through full choke, kills were awesome, pattern was tight, probably overkill. I've got a 10g sxs as well, 2 1/4oz of 3's or 2 1/2oz of BB's...bloody thing weighs a ton and takes a bit of swinging, but with full full choke, if your on them, it's devastating!!! The 4ft flame you get with the 2 1/2oz shells in the dark is pretty impressive too!!! ??
