Just because the CPSA is a not for profit company it can still operate like a well managed professional organisation. The CPSA needs a CEO with a real commercial background, not a glad handing politician who specialises in being photographed dishing out awards & trophies. Someone with some drive and imagination who understands what marketing is and how to use it to benefit the sport and the image of clay shooting.

How is the CPSA a not for profit company when they add a 100+ a year to the bank account?

Definition of not for profit is that any money generated is kept within the company of organisation to pursue it's interests, ie. No dividends are paid to share holders or members, profits are to always be kept for the organisation's use.

 
I would add to some of the comments above the following...

1). Promote and give a s**t about events and disciplines outside of the olympic disciplines and sporting. There are thousands of shooters out there dedicated to their chosen discipline who attend majors where in effect it is no different to a standard registered Sunday as no effort was put in. 

Sure i accept that one is the biggest participant discipline and the others carry with them the "prestige" but even so that does not mean that other disciplines should be ignored. 

2). Get over the fact that kids with wealthy parents are the future of the sport.... utter nonsense IMO..... you want to increase participation then you need that no kids, good income group OR grown up kids, still working group. 

3). Be at and visit grounds that are NOT holding registered. Surround themselves with those every week shooters who go to their local club and spend similar money to registered shooting but just shooting. Find out what it would take for those grounds to "go registered" and take their regulars along with them. Maybe even supply / volunteer to do X number of events for them coaching and guiding them on how to fill in shoot reports / submit scores. Show the shooters and grounds its not complicated... show their customers there is nothing to be afraid of by registering scores and shooting competition - tell them about birds only and such like. 

Harsh truth is by vendors and associations being at majors they are in a very limited market which is all too often already equipped and does not need what is on offer. Once you have your kit how often do you upgrade or renew?  Focus needs to be on that "not involved" sector but who still shoot - find that way to grab them. 

4). Team up with and work with the various other associations..... so maybe have a "cross membership program" where by if you join us we also give you access to X association for the next 12 months. Instead of seeing other associations as competition learn to work together! 

eg:- a). Did you realise that if you join our association it gives you insurance which you could then use to enter FEDECAT events - here is a flyer for them.

        b). Ah sir / madam you like skeet? Did you realise that you could get into NSSA skeet aswell. Here is a flyer for them that gives you 12 months free membership to that association aswell when you enter an event. A few of our CPSA registered grounds offer both on the same day.  Have you heard of the English Skeet Club - they offer events under our registered banner aswell. Here are some details. Did you also realise that there is also Olympic skeet and this is accessed through the BICTSF and British Shooting - here is some details about them. There is also the One Hundred Straight Club -........

       c). You prefer sporting - have you heard of FITASC and NSCA - they offer ......... here are details. Thisis how you can get involved.

TBH it is not frigging difficult but everyone is so damn concerned about keeping their slice of the pie that they forget shooting is so intertwined and there is so much potential for growth by working together instead of trying to oppose each other all the time.

irealise that thanks...the point i was making was the money is growing and not being used.

We have roughly 13000 from membership a month coming in plus advertising and such and thats roughly what the bank balance is growing by less costs....so the money isn't being spent.

it may look great from a business point of view but does nothing for the membership.

The CPSA is an organisation funded by it's members and whatever sponsorship/advertising revenue it can generate and seems to be lagging behind the technology that drives the modern world.  Sure the new web site is a great step in the right direction but the connected society we live in needs organisations that are equally well connected; take forums like this, I'd be very surprised if more than one member here also works at CPSA HQ?

In my view the CPSA needs to step up to the plate and participate, make members that shoot clays as a hobby but don't necessarily shoot comps feel they are part of something special.  It's not such crazy an idea - a couple of car forums I've been a member of have had posts direct from the manufacturer (they catch problems before they get badly out of hand)  - they could probably help Matt with the site running costs too.

I, and I'm sure many others too, take membership renewal for the insurance (yeah I know it's cheaper elsewhere) and little else but each year ponder if the CPSA really has my interests at heart.

So a new CEO, hopefully someone with 21st century commercial awareness and a grasp of the clay-shooting world and it's associated eco-system, let's hope they get it right.

Couldn’t pay me enough. Loads of conflicting things to manage and a few thousand member critics with partial knowledge and own agendas. Rather do naked alligator wrestling 

 
The major problem is we have national committee members that will blatantly vote against things just because of the person who put it forward,there is no objectivity.

While we allow these personal issues to dictate the way forward we end up mostly going backwards,until this stops we will go nowhere.

We need people on the board that will work together to improve the organisation,not people trying to fulfil their own agenda and who will do anything to spite others.

We also need an experienced CEO that is passionate about the sport and the organisation and not just worried about ticking boxes on his CV.

 
Will , for a start off you wouldn't be prepared to take the drop in salary .

Jeremy possibly would be brilliant , only snag would be Jeremy I do honestly believe that Nick Fellows does something totally alien to you.

I was just being nice to Nick , as I know it could be quite awrench to leave a job that he was so successful in.

Meanwhile I was having a 'pop' at Jeremy  because he wouldn't expect anything better from me.

Interestingly I was musing only the other day that we never seemed to slag Peter Page, Michael Alldiss , Brian Carter off as much as we have Emilio Orduna, Phil Boakes and Nick Fellows. 

Could it be the Board who are at fault with these appointments?

I asked Terry Bobbett if it was worth my time applying ? He said " Save the stamp."

One positive about Nick leaving . Knife crime will be down.

I think we all ought to apply, 

2 reasons, 

1) It will make the retained consultant earn his pay ---  I wonder how much of our money goes that way ... (There's the first cash saving when i'm appointed)  ;)

2) It may make them sit up and take notice of what the menbership really think, if they want to have a go  / replace him.

I think i fit the bill perfectly. 

I'm used to meeting people at all levels  (up or down) worldwide,

I have an understanding of the sport.

I'm used to international travel, 

I have good media exposure, and I am well liked around the world.

People write to me all the time, and i have  a PR department that is second to non.

I think it's in the bag :)
