NSSA - Iron-Man event cancelled.

http://www.mynssa.co.uk/300.html

Bloody typical - had just tubed the gun up for this event. Got my cartridges together and everything this afternoon and then went browsing around the net and discovered this news.

I was planning to shoot it too. The problem is it's just too much for most. Sixteen rounds is a lot of money, particularly given the discipline is fairly specialist anyway.

274368,

I can certainly see where your coming from - yes 16 rounds is a lot of shooting and this was the reason i was keen to shoot it.

I see this as the most accessible NSSA event as its all about 12 gauge skeet and most people who shoot / have an interest in skeet own a 12 gauge of some sort. An opportunity to try NSSA for those that want to.

My concern is that the other major NSSA shoots will go the same route as these are even more specialist.

This is the second weekend in a row shoots have been affected by shooters not be able to make the events - which is a real shame :-( - I fully understand that circumstances come up on the odd occasion.

However,

I think shooting really needs to look at "payment in full upon booking" for ALL major shoots OR certainly "non refundable deposits".

The other thing NSSA /BSSA could do to try and encourage newer shoots to try the major shoots is for new comers offer a "targets only option in the first time you shoots each major" - give new shooters a chance to opt out of the prize fund and try the discipline first.

This has been suggested before but dismissed because ground owners know it'll discourage attendance. It may work for the latest shoots but for more minor events shooters just won't commit if they know they've got to pay up front.

Skeet and trap shooters are a fairly fickle bunch. The decision to shoot often depends on the weather. Ask them to pay in advance and many just wouldn't bother.
