Braved some ridiculous windy conditions this morning to shoot the registered 100 at Churchills. Got there sharpish, booked on as card number one, so rattled round quite quickly with my shooting partner – saw DavidB and CleverSC3 as well on the way round – so we'll get some comparison scores. As ever, stands laid out well to minimise the walk - a few wind affected and a couple sun affected which might change profile during the day. Started off typically with a straight (g/a bird followed by left-right g/a) as a squally shower came through soaking everyone (and our non-waterproof scorecards).  Stand 2 was a close range teal followed by a right to left crosser that needed a bit of attention.  Stand 3 was a sim-pair of l/r going away birds – tricky but hittable. Stand 4 I can't recall - I must have blanked it from my mind! Stand 5 was our first exposure to the wind – an overhead g/a bird followed by a distant teal/crow – the overhead was hittable, but when the wind got behind it, it was about 150mph!  Stand 6 was in the walk-up stand – a g/a right to left followed by a straight incomer – up until this point I was going well. The second half of the round started with stand 7 in the grouse butt – with a flat left/right crosser followed by the high looper off the bank – the same bird that caught me out during the Challenge and the previous registered there – so in 15 attempts at that bird, I have only hit it once (today) – I only managed a three on this stand which dented the confidence a little. To finish up the round there was a stand with a rabbit followed by a left/right crosser which was high on the wind and missable unless taken early, a sim pair of a right/left teal with a dropping incomer l/r which needed some attention as it was very wind affected.  Final stand was a quartering g/a right to left bird followed by a left to right high looper – this stand really killed me card, I couldn't find either bird very well and ended up with a poor two.So – I finished on 67 – well above my 51 current CPSA avg – and fairly in line with what I have been shooting recently (especially if I skip the Westfield anomaly). Overall – an enjoyable round, think I gave 4/5 away to the wind. A few breakdowns and some no-birds which were annoying, but given that rain and wind overnight it was understandable – not so much when being the first person on a stand that day, the trap didn't work – they should be tested first thing.Couple of points to note – from next month the Churchill Registered will be £37.50 (up from £30) – although they have committed that £5 of that increase will go back into the prize pot.  We had a chat with Rob Fenwick as well who said that they aim to go twice monthly in the summer so the Thursday evening shoot will be on a fortnightly basis.

Well shot Matt Got back about an hour ago. Havent bothered to count the score dont think I cleared 55, scores have taken a reel dip for some reason? Lots of wind effected targets, the going away was missed completely and the other l to r crosser with the rabbit I couldnt find at all, in fact both me and the scorer couldnt see the birds and thought the trap was playing up. The sim pair going away were all over the place, as was I. The last stand I missed one of the r to l and all the l to r. I was above and way in front when I had a couple of extra shots after. Overall I seem to be going through yet another dip in form and having trouble really staring at the clay and possibly over leading targets, taking a positive I managed to hit 4/5 of the RtoL looper.

just checked 57/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif thats a 77 -70 - 58 -58-59- 57  very dissapointing may have take some time off

Hi,After howling gales at home, (found my BBQ upside down on the lawn just now) I was glad to get to EJC and find it `just plain windy`. I finished this on a 77 after missing 5 on the first three stands, which were the easiest!! I only straighted one stand; the away and incomer in the walk-up. 9 on the rabbit stand, 8 in the grouse, 8 on the fast away sim pair and 8 on stand 10 with high looper.  Stand 9 was the sim pair in the square wooden butt. Scorer said the wind was the worst all day when we shot it and hitting the clays was like trying to hit pieces of sh*t after it hit the fan.. 6 on there.. I only hit one of the massively fast overhead aways. About 7 feet beneath it did the trick, but staying online at that speed was tough for me. A good shoot considering the wind. I feel I would have had AT LEAST 6 more if it had been still. DavidB hit a stonking 80. (Boo, Hiss, C-class ringer). As I left, a storm cloud of big names were gathering in the clubhouse, so expect some 90+ scores from Childerhouse, Lovatt, Cobb, Freeman etc.. This shoot is becoming a firm Thursday favourite it seems. Well done to EJC for a decent event in tough conditions, especially as they have to work around the Challenge course.CSC3

Hi  Chris shot 93 ,that won.I Finished on 78, not good. But a Good shoot considering the wind, enjoyed it.Had a touch of the 7s today 6 of them, couldnt stop shoot in front of stuff, i think quite a few of the boys did the same.roll on sunday.

Only ever been to newbold once but thought it was a very good shoot, good variety of targets, mixture of woodland shooting through a valley and some open fields.

Good enough for me /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif Newbold on the 15th it is then/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif

I shot Newbold once and loved the ground but they put on a lot of loopers and battues which at the time I couldnt hit, There are some great birds thrown there though and the pool shoot is fun too. I watch Mickey Rouse shoot it off the hip and he still got more than me /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cry.gif

Results from Churchill on Thursday now up on CPSA : http://www.cpsa.co.uk/scores/f.....s/42/54492Quite pleased I managed 2nd in C-Class (a long way behind DavidB and his stonking 80) - don't think Churchills pay out down the classes though. Good to see CleverSC3 well up the a-class list and Steve Lovatt on a very solid 84.Despite all that wind, wasn't a bad day out!
