Foggy start to St Davids Day - but headed up to EJC in the hope that it would clear / burn off by the time we started the 100 Registered.

Saw quite a few ShootClayers there - David B, Gav B, Jon Skeet, Bob P and later on ELVIS was in the building... I was booked on as card 3 - and I headed off with Gav B for a run round.

Not disappointed by the weather - sun was shining by the time we reached stand 1 - a high l-r chondel followed by a midi g/a bird - nice stand to start on, not outrageous. Stand 2 was a nippy crossing left to right, followed by another g/a bird from your right shoulder - similar to last months - but a bit more spring on the crosser. We then wandered on - a couple of stands down in the sticks - a l/r quartering followed by a r/l incomer saw my first straight of the day and then stand 5 which was a sim pair of straightish birds - one going away, one incoming - which needed some attention.

Second half of the card started in the grouse butt - for a good pair of crossers, one low right to left with O/R left to right off the bank - both dropping away. Stand 8 was a sim pair with left to right rabbit and and lef to right crosser - this was my wrecker - I went over the crosser every time, so the course setter won! Stand 9 was a quick left to right quartering midi (not easy with the sun) and an incoming floppy.

We finished up on a pair of driven - one of which was fast and obscured by trees for much of its line with the second a slower driven off the tower - I struggled to try and take the first as a crosser - but corrected and took it straight on with better results.

My card? A personal best of 72 for a registered - enjoyed being out in the sunshine, and shooting better than I have for a couple of weeks. Nice morning!

Hi,

I sneaked away from the office to meet Ed Solomons and two of his mates, at 2pm. (They had come from RBSS where Ed has stuck himself in the final I reckon; but there is another thread on here for discussing that).

Ed was a bit off top form at the start on some `no leeed` stuff and dropped a couple, finishing on a 93. (I think Chris Childerhouse won on 96?). I cleaned up most of the easy stuff and carried on a bit of form from last weekend, hitting 89 again. It wasn't the hardest shoot they have had in the last few months. Well, it was their easiest, I would say..

Our day was compromised by EJC having a schools championship starting at 2pm!!!!!!!! About 60 teenagers with their teachers were on the ground, utilising 6 of the CPSA stands. (Not the same targets, but same stands and scorers). It was explained to us that where there was a huge gaggle of kids, CPSA shooters could jump in front as soon as the group on the stand had shot. And thats how the fight started!

We approached the rabbit stand to find about 20 kids waiting to shoot. So we went to another stand. When we came back, there were still 20 or 25 kids there. I walked through the throng to hand our cards in, only to be hauled up by the teacher and given a condescending lecture about how dreadful my behaviour was in front of children. I managed to defend my corner and make my own counter argument, but he clearly wasn't used to having a comeback, let alone from somebody over 5` 5`` and without spots. I just resisted the temptation to nut the tw*t, mainly because I was trying to keep the heart rate down while I shot.

All good fun!

But......Naughty naughty Will..........did you say a 'naughty word' on here just now begining and ending with T?

I got my bottom smacked by Matt when I said a much lesser one......although it also had 4 letters and began with F and ended with K.

So bend over and get your pants down and 'brace yourself'!!!!

Thank you Maam. May I have another.

Edited the word.. And I didn't swear at the teacher either. I think he was really lucky it wasn't Ed handing the cards in!!!

.......got your drink and cushions ready in the cocktail lounge......and please get those damn kids out of there .

ESP is hard to define as `easy`. For Ed to hit the same at RBSS as he did at EJC is very different to how I would compare on the two!

The score is valid and true at the CPSA. End of!

I walked down to the far end of the ground, to find no stands there today. Mike `puuuuuuuuuuuuuulllll` Yardstick was there with a photographer instead. I think that this part of the ground being absent was what made it feel a bit easier to me today. Not much long stuff.. Just as well because I missed three in the grouse!

Just got home!!! Yes a bit disappointed with my afternoon performance but still feeling some rust needs shaking out, should be alright after a couple more shoots! Chris did 94, Phil easman was winning on 96 when we left.

Bit of a pain with the school kids and the shady old pant sniffer looking after him, think he pulled the long straw picking on will!

Had a good time, but at £37 for the largely the same birds I saw there the last 2 times I went down, I won't hurry back. But a brilliant day off and beats the office hands down!

A good shoot today in glorious sunshine. Good to meet up with the shootclay team

Was a bit rushed in my shooting today not smooth enough, hit the very first pair then promptly missed the second pair, probably looking at the lead again, any tips about avoiding this habit or why I do it greatly received.

Positives today out of 15 driven I hit 11 this time last week it would of been the other way round ;) A 69 scored felt I could of done better but a good day none the less.

Uncle Warm-fingers in his natural environment  :.:  :.:

Congrats to Matt an a new High Score :)

I actually found it quite challenging and probably the toughest shoot I have faced there. Driven birds cost me as i really haven't got my head round them yet, if I can shoot them as a crosser then normally OK but not possible today.

Anyway, it was great to see everyone and nice weather for a change.

I ended up on 50.. halfway so not too disappointed, lessons learned, could have done better. Seems I have started to over lead birds.. least i'm not behind them ;)

Jon,

The driven stand today as I saw it:

First bird was more an 'incoming teal' launched from the floor. The trick was to hold the gun just in front of the tree line, then look for the target coming up through the tree. This bought time as it was quick, so i never let it get too far or it would be a back-bend. Lean to the right to get the line and whack it quick, only about 12 to 18" in front.

Second bird was a really soppy trainer driven, simply needing about 18" again, paying attention to its line.

Cheers

Nice to see my old shooting partner whacking in a good score! Seems like most enjoyed it, you lot are giving me an itchy trigger finger! I have a whole weekend and another week to go before I can fire my gun again! :-(

Well shot to the shootclay team seems like some good scores by all!

Glen.
