I have a miroku 600 trap gun that is older than me, is there anything to stop it going on for ever or do all shotguns have an expected life after which they become uneconomic to fix ? mirokus seem to have a reputation for longevity and this one seems to be going strong ?

thanks

the older mirk's are the best ones .. the build quality is far better than the new ones …. is there anything to stop it going on forever ?? NO . But u need to keep guns serviced regular and they will replace any worn parts during the service .. better than a part going and causing more damage (to other parts too). Generally guns die cos they have not been looked after .. people put them away wet, in damp cabinets etc and the rust gets hold .. weakens the barrels and parts and the pack up.

look after your gun and it will look after you

Read somewhere that there,s Berretta,s in Argentina that they use for Dove shooting that have had 1.5 million shells through them

well thats good to know thanks. so how often do you service your shotguns ? I dont think i've ever had opne serviced, a bit like watches I suppose I've never sent one off for a service yet.

I just keep cleaning the gun and oiling it and nothing more, should i service it every few years or every X;000 cartridges ?

im glad the old mirokus are built well, I can:t seem to find much information about the mirolu 600 HS which apparently i have ?

thanks

suppose this is an 'each to their own' topic regards servicing .. some say yearly others say as and when u need it … i do basic clean/oil/grease myself and have parts changes by a gunsmith as and when they look worn .. i think most gunsmiths charge about £80-£100 for a full strip down and service (mine charges £80) and i get one done when i buy a 'new' gun .. when i say new i mean new to me and get it done as i usually buy second hand as there are some real bargains to be had if your willing to look . I think it was the 600 i had .. very well built , opened so smooth just didn't fit me at all .. should've had it fitted really

my 600 seems to be very tight still and smooth to open as you say, no problems at all with it so far. It is difficult to find anything out about older miroku's, not much info on the net, can't even trace the serial number ?

i was trying to find out if it was a very early model that would have had more hand finishing in it than later models. i'm thinking of investing a bit in getting the fit improved, nothing to fancy as its a target gun just improving the palm swell and a touch on the length.

i personally pref the older mirk's .. its like comparing a rolls royce to a vauxhall :D
