I had a problem today, drove me mad, I thought I had a fault on the gun, my new gun...!

The gun is quite new and still quite stiff, but on putting a couple of cartridges in when I went to fire I could not pull the trigger, after a lot of messing about I noticed that when I closed the gun the release leaver had not snapped back to it's normal position, i.e. shut and able to fire. I found it was the cartridges causing this and by putting another pair in all was fine. I then tried the pair I removed one at a time to find it was just one of them.

I put this to one side and carried on, later the same thing happened, by the end of the day I had 7 cartridges out of one slab all preventing me from closing the gun fully.

I was on my own or I would have asked to try these in another gun, not sure if its the new and tight action of my gun or are these really that badly made?

The gun is Miroku MK70 Sportster and now had 1200 through it and the cartridges were Eley Olympics

Ever seen this before?

Not had this problem but as per my previous post I have had problems with Olympic's

Don't hold your breath waiting for any response from Eley, they have not replied to any of my emails.

My advice don't buy any more Eley's

There's been a bit of talk about Olympics lately, but I've used thousands and thousands over the last 2 years and never had one problem.  FYI.  :drag:

Difficult to say from a distance, but there have been several incidents of 'issues' with Eley Olympics reported on here. I don't shoot them myself, but its worth doing a search to see if anyone else's symptoms are similar to yours.

Hope you get things sorted.

Iggy.

I used to shoot them and also never had any problems however many reports of late so makes you think about quality control or rather lack of. Having said that you can have a bad batch from any maker.

Just to add to what the others have said; Phew!

Furthermore, sometimes you get a cartridge with a slightly thick base on it, which stops the gun closing properly.

Save up the duff ones and let your retailer have them back to return to Eley.

They have suddenly woke up to bad press about their lack of quality control and the MD has posted his apologies on PW Forum.

He has asked people to contact him if they have problems.
So I bet you have contacted Tomas then lord H and returned all your dodgy ones.

Thanks for the quick replies, I did look for other reported problems on the Olympics, the only problem that seems to have been reported before are ones that do not fire.

I am going to save them up and tack them back to the dealer, if I get any more in the 800 I have left them I think I will try another brand, it's amazing how quickly you can lose confidence in something like this. I have only just started clay shooting anyway so its not that I am used to the Olympics so its no big deal to change brand.

Dave where did you get them from Countryway? as has said you must have 1 of the last batches as they have stopped making them! i used to shoot them and have switched and haven't looked back!

Yes, it was country ways. Really, they are not made any more. Oh well I will switch brands when these are gone.

As someone else said you can very easily lose faith in a cartridge, and failures during an important comp are a big deal. So manufacturers should take any problem very seriously indeed, but do they ? Seems not. I can forgive a bad batch maybe even two if there is an explanation but after that your out for good and if no explanation given at all your out after one imo

Try Gamebore Velocitys £158 for 1000 from there never had a misfire yet!

I had a similar problem yesterday where the gun would not close due to the cartridge not dropping fully in to the chamber, looking at it I could not see much wrong with it but it must have been misshapen in some way.  I knew if I pushed it it would've gone in but I didn't want to possibly scratch the chamber walls.  This was a Rio Star Team fibre cartridge and the other 249 hadn't been a problem at all.  I think most likely there was a small burr or slight turn back on the end of the brass bit just making it fractionally 'oversize'.

Is there an email address for the MD ?

I would like to ask him what Eley are willing to do about the 25 plus faulty shells I have
