Not a quite a purchase just yet but while I'm waiting for my sgc to come through put a deposit on this:

It's a Laurona sporter, 12 bore single trigger ejector.

Now my certificate just needs to make its way out of the black hole in Bristol and onto my doormat!

Thanks! £390 with a set of chokes and is fairly lightly used. I think I got a decent deal.

can't go wrong at that money my friend. Did you have a mask on and sporting a side arm when you did the deal. ?

Looks a good starter. Something a bit funny going on with the butt pad? Looks very thin too.

As a beginner especially, you will benefit from a decent recoil pad on there and if the gun is a bit short it's a great way to get the length right. (If it's long, it's cheap to get a bit trimmed off).  It's the part of the gun you really contact with, so worth doing. I recommend ISIS green pad (see recoil systems website). They need fitting, but your gun shop may be able to do it a sensible rate.

My only other comment is that the top lever (the thing used to open the gun) looks very central. On a new gun it sits to the right a bit and as the locking mechanism wears over time, the lever goes central. Finally the gun won't lock up. Just ask about this and make sure the lever twitches right a bit as you close the gun, otherwise you could be in for a bit of work soon.

Thanks - the butt does have a super thin pad on it but its pretty solid - I think someone was using it to increase the stock length rather than provide any protection from recoil.

I didn't know that the levers were supposed to sit right; all the guns I have used so far had the lever central. In retrospect that makes sense as some of the new guns I looked at did have the lever sitting to the right.  Kinda kicking myself for not noticing that.

The locking action seemed pretty tight and solid though, not dissimilar to the new ones I looked at and definitely seemed the least worn out of the second hand ones I tried. It was also listed as being in very good condition so was happy to trust the shops judgement over mine -  I will ask the question though as the shop (Albion) isn't far.

I'm not anticipating being a particularly heavy user - 2 or 3 times a month is probably realistic so I'm hoping it will last a couple of years before I want to upgrade...

I wouldn't worry about it unless the lever is past centre to the left, even then its a sub hundred quid job to tighten it up.

Good solid gun by all accounts, and given the likely use you're planning, it should do fine.

A little bit of advice I was given by a gunsmith, take the forearm off then shake the gun, if it is a bit loose with a lot of shells through it, it is easy to spot.

but remember if you break it or drop it whilst doing so, you have bought it ?

Finally got to pick it up today, can't wait to put some cartridges through it! Needs a little bit of a clean as it's a bit gunky in the breach area, but otherwise just as shiny as I remember.

I have a question though; it came with a set of chokes. In the case I have:

1) full × (obvious)

2) cyl (obvious)

3) ic ×××× (again...)

But in the gun I have:

4) m xxx

5) modified xxx

Now are the two in the gun the same? It seems they should be, but the chokes are original so it would seem odd that they are marked differently.

I'd take a guess that the "M" chokes are 1/2 and the IC is 1/4. I'd go with them - 1/4 in the bottom and 1/2 in the top.
