First Gun

I'm looking to purchase my first OU.

I have a small budget and really just looking for a functional and reliable gun... I'm quite tall at 6'8" and have been told that I should be looking at 30" barrels and above because of this.

Any recommendations?

2nd hand browning or miroku. They seem to suit larger shooters.

my first gun was an MK38 sporter 32". Cannot really go wrong with a Miroku

I've got a deposit on (and shot with) a Lanber Sporting Deluxe. Really like it and it just so happened to fit me...

After going through this recently, I'd say go and handle some and see if you can find one that fits you within your budget. I was recommended Browning, Miroku and Lanber as a starting point...

I'm tall, long armed and broad.  I shoulders serveral makes when looking for my 1st gun and a 2nd hand Miroku MK60 just felt right and fitted me. Had it profressionally checked and they agreed it was a good fit. Often people say you change your gun after a year but I still have mine and I am am still shooting it well.  Mind you I have now acquired a semi and a SXS and each were chosen for fit rather that makers label.

Hi standard. welcome along . for a small budget you really cant go wrong with a Miroku MK-38 im  fairly tall aswell at 6ft 5'' and my last gun was a Miroku MK38 with 32 inch barrells and to be fair it suited me perfectly . i have since moved on to a Zoli Kronos but all my highest scores ive shot were with my old Miroku . they really are a great gun for the money

no but its pretty much the same gun as the mk38 isnt it ? just the older model ? they look nearly identical anyway

My first gun for clays was a A400 beretta auto loader. It is the extreme unica with kick-off etc. There is little recoil if any. I purchased a 26 inch barrel and it is in optifade. My daughter now uses it with an extended improved cylinder choke for learning sporting clays. I rather like the gun for new shooters and the recoil reduction is just excellent. For my daughter I have removed the 3/4 inch spacer and made the length of pull as short as I can get it. The light weight of the shotgun helps my daughter with getting tired during outings. Of course the swing of the auto is very quick and easy as it weights about 6.5 pounds if I remember correctly. 

      I purchased a 725 browning new citori field grade with 28 inch barrels as a backup gun for my sports , but that browning might make a good learning over under for my daughter as she goes.

My first gun I shot for five years and still have her but she is now my second gun Beretta Silver Pigeon.  Changed over to my Beretta DT10 four months ago and love her, getting to know her better.
