Hi gang,

Ive just bought myself an old spanish side by side for walks around the farm as the Browning is just too heavy to hump around.

So what I want to do now is remove the action from the stock and de-grease it and re-lube it as a bit of a treat for it and to ensure its all clean and running smooth inside.

My questions are:

What product would you use to de-grease the parts ?

and

What lube would you put back in to protect and lube reliably ?

Regards

Matt

Personally I’m pretty happy with Clenzoil as a cleaner.

With regards to lubrication, pretty well any gun oil will do. I use Beretta oil and the Browning Legia spray oil.

Just don’t overdo it.

If you can get the stock off and clean lubricate the trigger assembly and springs etc that would be good.

Box lock or side lock?

I tend to clean off old grease with wd40, that way the parts get some form of rust protection. I lube with light gun oil on points of contact, grease is ok but once it has moved off the contact point it stays off. WD40 just to protect the surface of the metal, not to lube.

As said go easy with the oil, I've seen too many stocks oil soaked..

Also a small dab of thread lock on the hand pin can stop it coming loose as it has a small contact area.

Also remember to use correct size turn screws (screwdriver) it will make life a lot easier, I grind my own to size.
