I wonder if somebody can give a definitive answer as to whether Gamebore use British or Italian shot size in their cartridges. I was at a shoot recently and nobody could agree if their 8's were actually British 7.5's or if they were indeed 8's. I'd find it strange if a British company was printing Italian shot sizes on their cartridges but I might be thinking too logically about things.

8 are eng 7.5 according to my supplier. Just got 3.5k today.

According to the Gamebore website the Black Gold game cartridges have continental sized shot. There's no indication that I could see that their other cartridges use continental sizes.

Sorry I can't help with your question, but on a positive note the clays can't tell the difference either...

Gamebore cartridges are Italian size, so the 8's are actually 7.5's, I believe this may change next year but that has not been confirmed. Having tested 8's and 7.5's (white gold, pro dtl's etc) there is very little difference, yes I know there is a difference in the number of shot but that in its self is meaningless, when you factor in shot compression (as the shot travels through the forcing cones, barrel and then choke) and the effect of the extra pellets. It's a subject that can be argued for months, so pick a variant you are confident with and forget about it.

Well I never knew that....I had always assumed being a British brand (and presumably UK made) Gamebores shot would have been UK sizes.

Not that it makes a huge difference of course, but I do always make a point of cross referring the quoted shot size and mm diameter of continental shells but would never think to with a UK shell.

Apparently it's because gamebore ship a lot of cartridges into Europe, so I was told. I don't think they buy their shot in from Europe as they are supposed to have their own shot well in hull.

They pretty much make all the components themselves.
Check this video

Gamebore have their own shot tower and therefore make all the shot they use. They also grade the shot five times to ensure consistency, I believe they are the only UK manufacturer to have a shot tower.

" They pretty much make all the components themselves."

That is apart from the cases, wads, primers, powders , loading machines , and cardboard packaging  ! :fie:   :fie:   :fie:   :haha:

They make plastic wads - check the video. Loading machines and cardboard boxes aren't components :)

Thanks for the comments guys, that's one gentlemanly wager I've won! On a personal note I couldn't care less if they're 8's or 7.5's, you still need to put the shot in the right place! I generally don't consider shot size when shooting clays. There are far more important things to consider in my opinion. Some people however like to take things to that level of detail and that's their prerogative. I would have thought however that it would be better to say exactly what the shot size is, so that "those that care" can look, and "those that don't" can carry on regardless!

Having just opened up a couple of Gamebore Evo fibre wad 8s. The pellet count was 513 and 505 against the accepted figure of 450 pellets to the oz. The diameter of shot varied from 1.98 mm to 2.12mm so they are approximatly english 81/2s. Could it be that Gamebore do not check their cheap cartridges as well as they do the premier ones. Being bored and wet weather does make you do strange things.
