Gilet?

This may be an American "two countries separated by a common language" issue, but kindly what is a "gilet?" I first heard the term mentioned on a UK based YouTube platform. I presumed it meant "fleece shooting vest." Google shows every variety of shooting vest (and lots of other vests) one can imagine for "gilet." So, is this just a UK generic term for "somewhat insulated shooting vest," or am I missing something in the translation? TIA!

Here’s my opinion . A Gilet is a sleeveless zip front garment which normally fastens right up to the neck . It is not necessarily a shooting item there will be fashion items , equestrian items etc , For clay shooting the term would normally be ‘vest ‘ and be specifically designed for that purpose . A gilet could be fleece , it could be down , it could could even be something else like waxed cotton . The quintessential British country side and game shooting gilet would be the Schoffel and a hundred lower cost copies of that garment . Not something you’d want to shoot serious clays in . But Ok on a game day and in the pub afterwards
