Good work! There is a huge dog fox needs removing where we're are, crossed paths with it anumber of times last Sunday as close as  20 M but only had sxs and didn't want to risk wounding, saw it tonight amd couldn't get any where near it.. not sure how they know the difference!

The free range ducks only went out Tuesday and he was on them that night. I had been out several times in the past few weeks and seen nothing. Got another 25,000 ducks and 10,000 geese going out this week so I probably be busy.

I've had 9 fox in 3 evenings shooting on the farm just recently.  The place is teeming with them.  I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of taking foxes with the .17 hmr.

I usually use my .223 under lamp, but have been lucky enough to be shooting with a buddy using his .243 Tikka with a Pulsar Apex thermal scope on top. It's a different kettle of fish.........

I have nothing against it but personally I could not shoot one as they look too much like a dog to me ?

in fact when keeper gives pre shoot talk on a boundary or beaters day he warns people to be absolutely 100% sure its a fox and not ians golden cocker.

last season we had a fox putting birds up in very thick cover in the middle of a drive right between two converging beaters lines. Cries of get that flippin dog on a lead could be heard until keepers wife at side of me on beating line shouted its not ians dog its a fox, eze was sat quite steady at my feet looking at the fox that had now appeared from the cover and was legging it. She seemed to look down the lined out beaters as if to say "see it wasn't bloody me"

sorry slight thread drift ?

I was brought up on the farm and always knew fox to be vermin/pests.  I didn't turn to all out war with them until I saw one of our Ewes lying in the field giving birth, and a big old fox trying to get it when it was only half out.  Foxes need to hunt for food. That's nature.  I protect the sheep on our farm.  Thats nature.........and when I say nature, I've got large centre fire rifles, naturally i'm gonna win :)

as I say woody I have no problem with it at all.

I think if I had witnessed that incident I would have been able to shoot it.

I've got to go tonight. Had ducks killed on two farms so its probably going to be a late one. I use a tikka 223 with NV and a tikka 243 with lamp and a sako 22 with NV for cubs.

243 to be added soon, although I have no issue with head shot with HMR, this was a reasonable weight fox and was dead on spot. Out past 125M or a body shot then CF is the answer

so what do you do for five hours in the dark ?

you must have to have tremendous patience??

Charlie Wilson or Sam Fox?

Dry evening or did it reynard?

:D
