Im researching camera options

Heres some footage from the $800 American Shotkam

GoPro 1080 Head cam footage

Around £250.

Any others please post

Hi Guys - it's apples and pears really. If you want to record shooting footage, then the GoPro is perfectly acceptable. If you want to understand your shooting then ShotKam is more suited, as the footage is specifically looking at where the actual shot corresponds what is aimed at. The reticule(s) superimposed on the footage give clear guidance as to what is right or wrong in the shot.

Mounting any camera on a shotgun is not easy, and the stresses from the recoil can quickly turn a £145 camera into a £0 doorstop (as developer David Stewart found out to his cost).

What happens with the ShotKam is that after switching it on (in the field), the video is activated by (for example) the gun being locked, whereupon it starts to capture film. When the shot is taken, the ShotKam takes a predetermined clip of the footage from before and after the actual shot(s). You can adapt the settings according to what un, type of shooting, choke etc)

If I'm not mistaken Phil Coley also markets "Shotseer" on his website (priced £1495), though I havent seen one directly. I am sure that is also a far more sophisticated gun camera, that you can't really compare to GoPro. I like GoPro cameras by the way, I think they are excellent value, but not really a training tool.

Try Tru-Shot by Dennis Stepney. It was there at the start and has already eliminated the poor products along the way during it's extensive testing.

How much is Tru-Shot? Is it in the reaonable realms of the common shooter, or is it costed to be the preserve of shooting grounds and/or coaches?

Settled on GoPro Hero3

Arrived in a day.

Mounted on bonce.

Took it out today on the Grinsthorpe Pheasants.

Will show you the results once I've downloaded.

I went for this option so I can use it for other sports

Skiing

Driving

Etc.

The full monty is +5k. It's not costed to any specific market, it's been developed and refined over many years, and uses the best possible materials that have been tested to destruction. However, there is a "lite" version - same camera and mount - that will work with your own laptop for less than £1500. ;)

Wow five grand!!!

I didn't want a training tool.

Just wanted to film shooting both game and clays.
That was my point - as a training tool for a shooting ground (or for a very busy coach), it looks ideal and has all the Gucci features you might need - can't fault it. But for the jobbing-shooter, who's not doing two registered shoots a day of a weekend, then even the £1,500.00 Lite version looks expensive. There are cheaper options as have been illustrated in this thread.

My son has looked at a lot of cameras and decided on the Go Pro Hero 3.

He uses it for motorbike enduro racing in Northern Queensland, so if it survives that it should be ok for shooting.

I just got this - the wide-angle HD version - £199.00 + P&P

Might not be all that Tru-Shot might be, but if it's pants, then at least I've not wasted a ton of gelt.

Considered the offer from Clayshooting success carefully.

Liked the price and mount.

So far the GoPro does more that just shooting.

Will see how easy the up load editing is.

Very fair comment mate. If you want to borrow mine after you've given yours a go, I'd be happy to do a lend-swap so we can try each others.

Interesting thread! I've always used an HD version of something called a track day camera that is about the size of a key fob. Looking forward to seeing the footage from both Bren and Jeremy's new toys :)

Yes would be happy to do a swap.

Will catch up once I've got to grips with the GP3.

One nice extra I bought was the wifi remote.

Handy today in the field.
Good to go - I'll try mine out over Christmas and New Year and map/film its performance and then ping you for whenever you're ready to swap. Be interesting to see to how the two compare.

Thanks Jem.

Bren.
