And just reading a thread on airgunbbs about storing shotguns in a locked rack rather than a gunsafe,apparantly legal?? Though I would guess only in a secured gun room,otherwise total madness.

Well since it was me who used the term 'average opportunist housebreaker' I feel honour bound to point out that I also mentioned that it's almost impossible to protect against determined & organised thieving, which this obviously was, and that it was not residential premises either.

It also strikes me that there was a serious lack of security all round, which is almost certainly why those premises were targetted.

Shouldn't it be the other way round?

The stock is the functional firearm bit, the barrels are as much use as a wrench without an action?

A gun cabinet is the minimal legal requirement for the safe storing of firearms which we must all conform to. These cabinets keep the guns safely away from children, angry wives and other normally honest people. If a thief is determined to get your guns the average gun cabinet bolted to the wall is really only a minor hindrance, so guys let not get too complacent (oh and girls as well, wow that was a close call).  :mole:

I can't think what use the stock would be without the barrels..

The thief would need quite a selection of barrels to match the stock and do any harm

No, the pressure containing vessels must show on your certificate, not the actions.

It may be so in NI but there is no legal requirement for a cabinet in the UK. Granted, for peace of mind a sound cabinet bolted to the wall is preferable, but not legally necessary see chapter 19

However the police, bless em, do like to try to convince both us and the cabinet makers that it is a legal rquirement.

I quite agree and it is common for a cab to be a condition of insurance cover.

A cabinet is handy and safe if you do it right.....but you can also store them in a gun room. I did until I moved south :smile:

No cabinet. Several guns. Special plate door and locks. No problem.

The room also held all the recording machine for the security cameras.

However.....If you buy the correct safe (plenty of videos on-line about that) and if you put it in the right place,,,,,and if you bolt it to the wall and the floor..........it ain't going anywhere........ L. O. L.

As for insurance......I must be lucky then........never had it specified on my insurance......but then the NFU are very very good. :smile:

It's alright for you rich buggers up north mate! Us poor southerners down in Dorset can't afford such guns, mine is so old it must be worth about thitry bob by now! It's only one step away from being a bloody flintlock and may even have disguised damascus barrells that were painted black with a tin of Dulux, the stock is probably made from an old cricket bat once used by a Samuri Warrior. Talk about the north south divide!!! :laugh:

Oh yes...The Romans, they were here too, bloody grockles! We still get Romans down here, and Germans, and Dutch, and god only knows what else. We do not however have any motorways in Dorset at all, I'm surprised anyone ever finds this place. Anyway things are sure to improve after the next general election, I shall be glad to see the back of that Clement Attlee bloke! We hear wispers that we may soon get that electricity stuff too, but I shudder to think what is going to happen to our local candle maker. :drinks:
