Hi everyone,

Has anyone got one of the hamilton stands? what do you think? whats the build quilty like?

They look great and would like to get one.

The one priced at £19 is okay, a little fragile looking and does fall over very easily if not placed with care.

The other on at just under  £90 seems to be more robust but not as popular as the www.gunslipstand priced at £40

Bit hard to say about popularity, as the Hamiltons have only just been available recently. I took my wife to a straw baler on Saturday and it felt really crap without the H stand. Mud everywhere etc.

I think you will see a lot of them as time goes on. If mine falls apart after two years use (which I dont think it will) it will work out as about 40p per use. Well worth it. And that isnt an extra 40p, if you are saved from buying a normal slip too.

They have been around the Kingdom of Mercia  for quite a while hence my observation of them lying on the floor.

But I am sure that they are fine if treated and used properly. I don't actually put my gunslip down in the mud, but I have seen many who do.

I used mine in anger up on Dartmoor on Sunday morning.  The setting is wild moorland.

The club have a gun stand but the slots cut to take the barrels are not big enough and I wasn't happy to use that.

Otherwise gun slips tend to lie on the floor or on an adjacent rock (mini granite tor!)

I set mine down with the base facing the prevailing wind and left the zipped top open and put the gun in it broken when I was not shooting and it worked a treat.

There was persistent drizzle and the gun was kept dry and the interior kept dry - need to test in proper rain.

Admired by those present, especially the attached umbrella which became the topic of conversation and how it could be attached to the trap to protect the trapper from the rain.

I just put my gun slip on the floor. If it gets really dirty, I give it a clean. If it gets only a little bit dirty then I leave it alone, because I'm not a tart. My slip also came with a strap so that I can put it on my shoulder. :)

I leave my gunslip in the car and carry my gun, it's not a great hardship. That way I don't feel like a packhorse, lugging furniture round the place.

It rains sometimes, but the world keeps turning.......

Quite.
I should add that I normally carry a gunslip but forget about it and lose it by about stand 3.

I should also add that I tend to sulk like a bitch when it rains, but that isn't because my gun's getting wet, or I'm wishing I'd brought a wardrobe round with me.

It's because I'm getting wet....... <_<

I will shortly be hiring punkah wallahs and mahoots for the Essex Masters. I need someone to fan me with palm fronds and carry my supply of Jones Adjusters and other prosthetic limbs, eyewear, recoil reducers and gunslip holders.

Not tried one,but was looking at one recently at Bookham Guns,it seemed very well made, but was pretty big,a bit like a scaled down golf bag if that makes sense!!

Fine for skeet. Try walking around half a mile of twelve spaced out stands, over three hours with queuing on muddy ground.

Each to their own, but love mine.. Happy to admit to being a tart. I like my stuff clean and organised; it helps my head be the same
