Chilly/Breezy day at Hornet - much of the area underwater, but Hornet was only a little bit muddy for four decent layouts. Was in a squad of eight with some excellent shots, the SG was very busy with a good Christmassy atmosphere.
Started on Two Towers layout with a 10 - wheels right off at the start of the day, uncommitted , nonsense shooting that felt really lazy. Need to work out how to hit the ground running a bit more solid. Had an excellent teal shot from the side which I managed to miss from all three pegs, some distant edgy stuff and a couple of nice tower birds to spice things up.
Gave myself a stiff talking to on the walk back up for the club house layouts - some interesting targets in the woods behind the club house, and then a decent set of crossers, battues and overheads. Managed my personal best of a 21 on this layout, dropping a tricky battue and a high looper in the woods which foxed me with a short window of opportunity.
Had a decent break - with a Crazy Bear supplied burger - and then onto The Bank layout near the carpark. We had a an excellent long rabbit, shot from two pegs, and some tasty sim-pairs. I managed a 16 here - dropping a couple of long range crossers.
Final layout was the Pen, with some long crossers and the platform to make things interesting. A couple of tricky fast shots here, and a quick left/right midi that needed bags of lead. Finished up on an 18 - dropped a couple of silly shots here that should have given me a slightly better score.
So - took a 65 home - which given the terrible terrible start, I was actually quite happy with. Need to work on getting a faster start and then continue focussing on hold points and technique for doubles.
Great shoot - some excellent targets and well run all the way round with good refs and a decent timetable. Thanks Kev for a great shoot. Nice to see a few from here - winning score was 91, with Phil Gray and Paul Batchelor tying for honours. I was lucky enough to see a couple of 25's from my squad which as always a pleasure to watch.
