On a again just returned from a 1000 bird fitasc shoot in Germany where steel is mandatory, we short 28gm 7s recoil normal. Clays where consistently killed at 80 yards including straight up chondelles with no rotation.

i shoot a 3/4 full Krieghoff (I forgot my gun)

very very happy with the outcome and product

Dornsberg?

3/4 Full for Steel? Surprises me that it worked so well. Which cartridges?

Is the 1000 a typo? staggering effort if not. These steel loads (brand?) were they plas-wad or fibres as there the growing pressure on single use plastics thats sure to come. Think you are a Briley choke user? are these all steel proof? only asking as am sure the one(s) I have says "lead only"

As for the 80 yard breaks, most of us are not quite at your level so might not be able to do so to convince oneself etc

Woozers, thats some daunting numbers, also asked what brand of cartridge? also the wad as there will be the single use plastic argument against plas-wads coming,

Everyone shot cheddite was supplied and bio wad plastic

Yesterday saw the release of HSE Gov documents regarding the proposed ban on lead shot (for all shooting) did wade through a few pages (one being 200+) and it feels its inevitably going to happen, including clay only grounds and soon. The document, and will admit I’ve not waded through every page in detail appears to suggest that banning lead is the answer to so many ecological / environmental/ social / educational / financial problems that its the only way forward.

They keep trying to kill the sport from various angles, from False Flag Ops in Plymouth to Lead Shot nonsense they'll keep it up.

Whenever these kind of 'schemes' are published in the shooting press etc, the instant reaction from shooters is to fall into the trap of continuing the discussion based on the narrative that 'they' have set, and blindly believing their assertions. The reason why this is a mistake is because their BS narrative then becomes socialised and then normalised and this is always interpreted as 'Consent'. This 'Consent' then solidifies their narrative and this will result in shooter apathy ending up with no objections (opinions on forums don't matter). What the shooting bodies (BASC and CPSA) should be doing is working together on a coherent strategy that defends all forms of this sport - Maybe they are and if they are, they should be more vocal about it.

Given that many so called Local Authority's or Councils are now being found out and sued for fraud because they are nothing more than regular private businesses with a CEO and a VAT number sending out speculative invoices (Council Tax), more people are realising that these kind of misleading Organisations do not have the authority they want everyone to believe.

On this basis nothing should just be accepted as an authority and everybody needs to start questioning everything instead of blindly accepting BS. The main shooting bodies (BASC and CPSA) should start doing some real digging and do a deep dive into the HSE Organisation and its executives.

Just because something is presented in sophisticated language from an Authoritative sounding Organisation doesn't mean that its credible.

I'm a very average  shot   i have shot steel only once , very impressed with the shells and kills ,   ( gamebore supersteel )  my problem is COST !!   ?

I hear you. Even though our steel cartridges is fairly cheap (200£ pr. 1000), cost of living will kill my clay target shooting next year.

Regarding the topic at hand. We have been shooting exclusively steel since the mid 90s in Denmark. The first couple of years they where rubbish but now there is really no difference.

That would be ok for me, I've shot 24gm for years.

Ed Solomons mentioned in one of his videos that clay shooting will still be using lead.

I suppose we'll all need new colour corrective glasses in a few years, if we're forced to use steel. All the clay grounds will be covered in red rust. Wonder what will happen once all the "iron oxide" hits the water table?
