Hi All,

This may not be the right place to post this - but here goes.

Due to my following the prescribed recommended location for putting my safe, it's in a pretty dark place. Even with the 'big light' on (thanks Peter Kay, copyright cheque in the post, honest!) it's a cramped and difficult place to store my pride and joy. I worry about scratches, bumps and knocks etc.

Im working on an electronic LED lighting system that comes on when the door is opened, and will go off after a set time or the door is closed. I'm using some reasonably sophisticated kit (because I'm a bit of a geek) which has the potential for a whole raft of other features, namely security, wifi connectivity and camera that can capture an image and beam it to a cloud account every time the safe is opened.

Has as anyone seen a retro kit for this kind of thing off the shelf, or am I possibly on to something?

ive taken a look at a few safe website and generally surfed the web but can't see anything like it....

in a word NO and yes you may well be on dragons den next series. Sounds interesting.

Do you think arriving at the set with a shotgun might be seen as a threat?

I bet I could get out of there with a whole bunch of cash, if you know anyone that can drive a fast car.....?

you'll have to put the wifi antenna out the back of the safe and out of sight. Wifi signals inside a steel box wont get out to the cloud ( or anywhere else ) and if the antenna is visible it's going to get cut/removed by anyone intent on jimmying the door.

I have a 'locker light' a led light intended for general cupboards, think I bought a handfull from lidl or aldi or some such,  battery operated, works like a fridge light, that is mounted inside my cabinet for the same reason. Initially I bought them for dark boat lockers.

Google 'locker led light'

I think your onto something. I will give you a tenner BUT I want 30% of the company and any other inventions you may have. Now go and talk to the wall.

I've not gotten to the prototyping stage on the security yet, so need to prove my concept. I was thinking that I may be able to use a paper thin pcb antenna that will be very tough to see in a darkened space.

I I was toying with the fridge light switch idea, but found that locating it could be a little tricky, and had the potential to move.

If you look on youtube for american gun cabinets they seem quite common.

If it is that dark and confined, just install a high intensity strobe and a siren in there...they won't hang around for long, and will make the picture much more entertaining to look at.

Just bought one of these for my new cabinet.  Had to make a slight modification because although it has a motion detection PIR,  it also has a light sensor to stop it coming on in the daytime.  I found it didn't come on even if the room was quite dark, so I just taped over the light sensor and now it comes on as soon as I open the door.

I would suggest that the stuff is already out there and available. My S in Law has his own Burglar alarm and security business and the outside perimeter of his house is set up with lighting and camera's. If activated, it comes up on his mobile phone, complete with pictures. Absolutely superb.............if you want to know what next doors cat is doing  ?    :cat:

P.S.

I just rely on a good house alarm system.  Why not use the silicone type sock things to store your guns in, they help to prevent cabinet knocks and dings.

So, it look like this time next year I won't be a millionaire then??

Bugger. Back to the drawing board!

Same here. I developed a baked bean counter so everyone got the same amount from the tin. Iam fairly sure no one else makes one , the problem is no one else wants one.

I'll give you a fiver for it... ?

Here we are then folks. At £4.99 from Aldi, it seems to be actually pretty good!
