Just seeing the picture of the man reminds of a fact I gleaned out of an interview he gave a few months back. He only shoots about three or four hundred cartridges per month in practice, says at his level competition and not practice is the way!

Think he is the exception rather than the rule.

Don't believe all you read. My Aussie mate Frankie shoots with him all the time on all sorts, they are best mates.

I only shoot 400 to 500 a year at present and can confirm that performance tails off with time.

Each time out I get worse and worse and worse!

Ten years ago (when I was shooting several thousand a year) I was quite reasonable, but now very middle of the road.

Still enjoy it though!

When I stayed in the UK I never shot clays so I only shot game so hardly used any cartridges and never did any practice! Bloody awful shot :) Of course now I shoot trap and use a couple of hundred a week shooting is improving! Trap it is the discipline.

Yes I think there is a direct correlation between practising a lot at anything and getting very good at it.

Some say that a break does you good and your better when you come back but I do not agree you come back with low expectations as you know full well you will be rubbish as you haven't shot for a month (or whatever) therefore your happy to score one above the expected so think the break did you good. Practice practice and more practice is the key IMO

I do find it funny when top shots say this kind of thing. I found a video of Gebben Miles saying you shouldn't get obsessed with shooting a lot of rounds, then goes on to say he made that mistake and used to shoot every day 1000s a week. Well was it a mistake? or is he now reaping the rewards!

Good point Jake if you didn't practice in the first place and won multiple Olympic medals you are either brilliant or its some sort of miracle! I think what MD was probably saying is he does not need to practice now he is where he is and that competition keeps him at the top now?
