:fie:  Aaarrrghh!!!

Actually it is not as bad as it sounds.  I remove my Teagues every other shoot and give them a wipe down and wire brush the barrels to remove the crud, and I found a little bit of corrosion where the chokes fit into the barrels. As the Teague process removes the chromed finish of the barrels and leaves bare metal, it exposes the barrels to corrosion.

I have cleaned them out, but know that it will come back.  I use the usual Sprays and greases from the gunshop, but I know that I will need a rust remover or chemical to clean it off properly.  Does anybody have any thoughts on what is best to use?

Many Thanks

I do bore brush it with the chokes in, I have just found a small bit of corrosion where the chokes are, and I don't want to damage the threads where the teague chokes fit.  I didn't want to put any rust remover in until I had spoken to educated people first!!!   :slow:

Educated people? And you ask us?? Surely some mistake?  :sarcastic:

Seriously, a careful brushing of the threads with your phospher bronze brush will do no harm (as it's softer than steel) and will hopefully get rid of any loose corrosion if you have that. Just don't be too brutal or do it too often. The secret is prevention before this happens, but you know that now don't you?

Unless you are using a hard metal brush or tool you will not damage the threads. Bore brushes are made from a soft metal (in relation to steel) so will not damage anything, just as lead shot will not damage the threads, lead being a very soft metal. Now if you decide to use an abrasive wheel on the end of a drill then expect damage...

Yes I mean don't routinely brush with chokes out. Occasional and careful is fine of course. (Softer does not mean 'will never damage').

I can show you a beretta that has had thousands of shells through it, no chokes pure threads and they are still fine - DISCLAIMER!! I am not telling you to do this or that if you do attempt this it will not damage your gun, I thank you...

Wouldn't do that to a Miroku though would you ?  :sarcastic:

No chance, mine got mildly damp at the weekend and rusted in about 3 minutes!

NO CHOKES IN AT ALL!!!   Sounds good to me!  It'll be like firing a bed at the clays!!  I might have a chance of hitting them now!!!  Just got to be careful of not using steel shot!!!!   Ha!

Well lesson learned!  I clena the gun EVERY time I go out, but the chokes every other time.  They'll get a wipe now thats for sure.  It is only a little bit of surface rust so some judicial brushing and cleaning will do the trick!
